Nova Scotia Agricultural College college herd summaries

File contains hand-written summaries of the animal herds at Nova Scotia Agricultural College [ca. 1900] to 1965. Records describe breeds of cattle: Guernsey, Jersey, Ayrshires, Herefords, and Holsteins; breeds of sheep: Scottish Blackface, Shropshire, and Hampshire; and horses: light horses, and Clydesdales. These descriptions include when and how many were purchased, herd book and individual animals name and numbers, and stud book records. The summaries also include details of two disease events that affected herd-wide health including 'Bovine Tuberculosis' and 'contagious abortion'. Mention is made of the conferring of a 'Superior Breeding Certificate' on Farm Superintendent, Archibald MacMillan. The summaries also make mention of the Nova Scotia Animal Breeders Coop Ltd with reference specifically to dairy cattle.

In the first photograph is shown individuals turning the sod for Chapman House, Nova Scotia Agricultural College: L-R: [D.L. Parker], Deputy minister, Hon. I.W. Akerley, Minister NSDAM [Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture and Marketing], Dr. Wm Jenkins, Principal [NSAC]. Shown in the second photograph is Lyman T. Chapman, the college's 3rd principal, who was a special guest at the opening ceremony for Chapman House. In the photograph he is depicted reading the inscription on the plaque which is installed inside the main entrance. Photo by the Nova Scotia Information Service. The third photograph shows the construction of Chapman House. The fourth photograph is the opening of Chapman House.

Nova Scotia Agricultural College satirical theater script

File contains a satirical script (ca. 1971) for a play focused on student life, the academic calendar, and social interests of the day at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. Topics include College Royal, sheep management, etc. It includes a list of actors: R. W. Hounsell (potentially NSAC faculty circa 1960s?); Ray Porth (NSAC Biology Faculty 1970-1980); J.S. (John) Bubar (NSAC Class ’50, and Plant Science faculty); Stuart Smith (NSAC Faculty 1964 to 1991; Len Eaton (NSAC Professor of Biology circa 1970’s and 1980’s (?); and, Gordon Delaney.

There are 4 sets of negatives, they include people sitting at tables outdoors around a field in 1970s era clothing, people watching a marching pipes and drum band, some of the photographs feature the campus barn and silos in background, one shows Clydesdale horses pulling a wagon with approx. 8 people seated.

File contains 4 negative prints of a Nova Scotia Agricultural College building prior to demolition, possibly the Principals house. The building was dormer roofed, 2 story (+ attic) building with 4 front bay windows, covered front stairs with veranda above, and side porch visible. Rear view has a lean-to porch and small side entry. The photograph is dated Feb 14, 1977.

File contains 7 photographs of C.A. Douglas' retirement. They are all stamped "Photo by Pridham Studio, Truro, N.S.". Charles Douglas was Deputy Minister of the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture and Marketing. Douglas also served as Assistant Agricultural Representative in Pictou, Agricultural Representative in Hants County, Assistant Director and, later, Director of Extension, and as Director of Livestock.
