Watchclock

Item is a "Detex Newman" watchclock with guardsman Key. Likely used at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. The Detex was brought out in the 1920s.

Wooden shield with Nova Scotia Agricultural College logo

Item is the Class of 1952 gift - Wooden shield with Nova Scotia Agricultural College logo/crest. The Management Board of the Government provided a designer and a committee of faculty led the process of developing a new logo. The logo, with a shield and the College name, had two symbols: an open book to represent learning and a mold-board plow, which suggests cultivation and agriculture. The College motto inscribed is "Mens agitat molem", which has been translated as "the educated mind animates and enlivens creation". The artist, Bruce Wood, designed the carving using three woods, inlaid to make the shield shaped logo. Was presented to the Library in memory of fellow '52 graduate Dr. Herbert F. MacRae. Dr. MacRae was successful, in 1983, in getting an exemption for NSAC from the new Provincial identity program, which failed to recognize the Atlantic role for the College in both its university and community college - technical programs. at the "Breakfast at the Library" event during the NSAC Homecoming / Alumni reunion October 25, 2003 - from Library Trust Fund Update vol.14:no.1(October 2003)
