File consists of records relating to organization, planning, and preparation for the exhibition 'French Painting 1840-1924' organized and circulated by the National Gallery of Canada and presented at the Dalhousie Art Gallery in February and March of 1971.
Records consist of correspondence, condition reports from Dalhousie Art Gallery and others, accompanying texts for the exhibition including a bibliography, recommended film screenings, readings, and descriptive texts; an exhibition loan agreement, docent agreements, lists of artworks and biographical information, and a newspaper clipping.

File consists of records relating to the exhibition 'On the water's edge', consisting of facsimiles of 17th and 18th century Dutch drawings from the collection of the Teylers Museum, Haarlem. The exhibition was presented at the Dalhousie Art Gallery in April 1971.
Records consist mainly of correspondence between Ernest Smith (Director, Dalhousie Art Gallery) and staff of the Royal Netherlands Embassy, whom the exhibition was circulated through. One additional record consists of a paper outlining the historical background of the Teylers Museum and the collection of drawings.
