Record library of opera and secular music

Item consists of a handwritten catalog of a personal record library of opera and secular music compiled by David Murray in the mid-to-late 1930s. The catalog is arranged in alphabetical order variably by category or musician, with associated records held in the collection listed underneath in a left-hand column (with corresponding storage location in the opposite column). The catalog was compiled in an address book.

File contains four documents related to David Murray's record collection. All of the record collection items contain Murray's location coding. File contains a handwritten 44-leaf notebook containing, alphabetically, Murray's "Record Library of Opera & Secular Music", a short handwritten addendum of record collection additions from 1936-37, a 49-leaf typescript variant collection list and a similar 49-leaf handwritten collection list with different location codes.

File contains programs for performances by the Russian pianist Mark Hambourg (October 2, 1911); American soprano Victorina Hayes; Canadian bass baritone Edmund Burke; American tenor Allen McQuhae; and the Pictou County Philharmonic Society, directed by George M. File contains an autographed photograph of the Montreal-born opera singer Louise Edvina Edwardes (nee Martin), known by her stage name "Madame Edvina." File also contains a print of Louise Edvina in costume from the opera "Tosca" by Giacomo Puccini. Logan's notes on the reverse side of the print and at the bottom of the photograph indicate that she was known for her creation of the title role of Louise in an opera by Gustave Charpentier.
