File contains two inaugural addresses delivered by James DeMille at convocation ceremonies of Dalhousie College. The first inaugural address was delivered on November 4, 1873 and printed in Dalhousie Gazette, Vol. 6, No. 1 (November 15, 1873). The second inaugural address was delivered at convocation in 1878 and printed in Dalhousie Gazette, New series Vol. 4, No. 1 and No. 2 (November 23, 1878 and December 7, 1878).
File contains the valedictory address delivered by Alexander Howard MacKay at convocation on April 30, 1873. The address was published in the Dalhousie Gazette, Vol. 5, No. 10 on May 3, 1873.
File contains handwritten notes from speeches delivered by a Dalhousie sophomore student (probably Avis Marshall) during the hazing of "freshettes" (first-year female students). Some are written on the back of unrelated typed notes.
File contains draft and final speeches and addresses delivered by Carleton Stanley between 1931 and 1934, early in his tenure as Dalhousie President. File also contains related correspondence.
File contains two copies of a speech, one heavily annotated. A handwritten note indicates that it was given at the Annual Conference of Canadian Passengers Association and Canadian Travellers Association.
File includes a program for the Inauguration of Alexander E. Kerr as President of Dalhousie University (November 13, 1945); "Education" (delivered on CBC September 29, 1946); "The Significance of the Reformed Church Tradition for Modern Education" (1948); and other addresses delivered during his Kerr's tenure.
File contains a typed and annotated manuscript copy of an address given to the Halifax Commercial Club in 1946. It also includes newspaper clippings related to the event.
File also includes three drafts of an address made by Charles Bruce at a dinner held on 11 May 1946 in honour of Andrew Merkel's retirement as Atlantic superintendent of The Canadian Press and a copy of the CP Informative Bulletin, which includes an account of the dinner and tributes to Merkel from editors at Halifax Herald and Halifax Chronicle.

File contains a copy of Budge Wilson's acceptance speech printed in School Libraries in Canada (Summer 1991) for her Canadian Library Association (CLA) Young Adult Canadian Book Award for "The Leaving," and a copy of her letter to the magazine regarding the omission of the title of her book from the published speech. The speech was originally delivered at the CLA/CACL Book Awards Banquet in Montreal, Quebec. The file also includes an annotated, typescript copy of the speech, possibly used at the awards presentation.
