Gerard Hall architectural plans

File contains a set of architectural plans for Gerard Hall (originally the Halifax Infirmary and School of Nursing) produced by architects C.A. Fowler @ Co. and printed at reduced scale.

Gymnasium for Dalhousie University

File contains construction blueprints for the Studley Campus gymnasium, which was designed by architect Andrew Cobb and built by MacDonald Construction in 1932. Drawings include floor plans; elevations; footing plans; cross sections; and details for windows, cornices and other elements. The plans, which are labelled with job number U-311, are signed off by [W. Thompson?], Secretary of the Board of Governors.

Historic buildings of Canada exhibition

File consists of a records related to the exhibition 'Historic Buildings in Canada' organized by the National Gallery of Canada and presented at Dalhousie in March 1966.

MacDonald Library bookcase details

Macdonald Memorial Library construction and heating and ventilation blueprints

File contains two complete sets of construction blueprints for the Macdonald Memorial Library (now the Macdonald Building) at Dalhousie University, which was designed by Halifax architect Andrew R. Cobb with consulting architect Frank Darling of Toronto. One set was reproduced from the set of 16 original sheets signed by G.S. Campbell, Chairman of the Board of Governors, and building contractors A.D. Falconer and D. McDonald, all but three of which (nos. 8, 12 and 14) are located in UA-9, Box 1, Folder 1. The other blueprints are marked "set no. 4" and were reproduced before/without the approval signatures. There is also an incomplete set of diazo prints (purple ink on cream paper), as well as a complete set of heating and ventilating blueprints produced by MacMullen, Riley & Durley, Consulting Engineers, and signed by G.S. Campbell and A.D. Falconer and D. McDonald.

Macdonald Memorial Library construction drawings

File contains construction drawings for the Macdonald Memorial Library (now the Macdonald Building) at Dalhousie University, which was designed by Halifax architect Andrew R. Cobb with consulting architect Frank Darling of Toronto. The bulk of the drawings are part of an original set of 16 sheets dated Dec. 20, 1913 that contain the approval signatures of G.S. Campbell, Chairman of the Board of Governors, and building contractors A.D. Falconer and D. McDonald. Sheets 8, 12 and 14 are missing, but are extant as blueprints in Box 1, Folder 2. File also contains a 1914 drawing showing revised window details and a sheet no. 6 from a 1920 alteration to the library. Drawing types include floor plans, elevations, sections and details.

File contains an electrostatic print set reproduced on polyester of Sheet Nos. 1-16 of Andrew Cobb's construction drawings for the Macdonald Library, as well as a sheet of window details dated June 23, 1914 and one sheet of drawings of additions and alterations dated May 1, 1920.

Macdonald Memorial Library stack room floor plans and elevations

File contains a floor plan and exterior elevations for the MacDonald Library stacks, which show three different window styles for the east facing wall. There are also some early floor plans for the library indicating room appointments and elevations of bookshelves. Drawings are by both Andrew Cobb and Frank Darling.

Massey medals 1970

File consists of records relating to the exhibition 'Massey Medals for Architecture 1970', organized and circulated by the National Gallery of Canada. The exhibition was presented at Dalhousie Art Gallery from November 1-30, 1971.

Records consist of a condition report, exhibition agreement contract, descriptive exhibition text and packing lists, correspondence with the National Gallery, handwritten notes, and a press release from the Royal Architecture Institute of Canada (RAIC) regarding the finalists and winning entries for the Massey Medals Awards Competition.

Medical Library floorplans

File contains basement and first floor plans stamped by the Library Bureau for a medical library at Dalhousie University. File also contains a technical drawing of a magazine storage rack for the medical-dental library, which were submitted by the Steel Equipment Company, Ottawa, ON.

National Research Council building architectural plans

File contains architectural drawings for the National Research Council Laboratory and for the Institute for Marine Biosciences on Oxford Street in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The 1949 drawings, produced by Leslie Fairn and C. Gustave Brault, include plot plans; footings; floor plans; interior room and finish schedules; sections and details; and plumbing, heating and electrical plans. The 1964 and 1979 drawings are for additions and extensions, and were produced by Duffus, Romans, Kundzins and Rounsefell Ltd. The file also includes a set of drawings printed at reduced scale for a submission by Lydon Lynch issued September 2002 for a National Research Council New Industry Partnership Facility Institute for Marine Biosciences.

'O' Building (Annex) revision drawings

File contains architectural drawings for revisions to the "O" Building (Annex) at the Technical University of Nova Scotia, which were produced by the Campus Design Centre. Drawings include floor plans, sections, plumbing, and details.

Peter Green Hall revisions or issues drawings

File contains drawings for Peter Green Hall, labelled "Married Students Housing for Hfx Student Housing Society" on the earlier drawings. Drawings include floor plans, mechanical plans, details and specifications (1967, 1994 and 2000) and new metal siding details and elevations (1985).

Box contains prints, slides, negatives, and proof sheets of photographs of Dalplex construction; Dalplex roof; aerial photographs of Studley Campus; signage on Studley Campus; the Life Sciences Centre; the Forrest Building; houses on Henry Street; and other buildings. Box also contains an entry for the 1980 Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards by R.L. Booth of Carruthers & Wallace Limited and a presentation about stainless steel meniscus roofs. The photographs are stored in binders.

Photographs of the Killam Memorial Library construction

File contains photographs of the construction of the Killam Memorial Library at Dalhousie University in 1968 and 1969. The photographs show the construction site from different perspectives at different stages in the construction. Many of the photographs are stamped with "Fraser-Brace Maritimes Limited," the name of a construction company. The photographs were taken by Maurice Crosby Photography Ltd. and Wamboldt-Waterfield Photography Limited.

Preliminary floor plans for a library at Dalhousie University

File contains 3 pages of blueline prints of floor plans for a library at Dalhousie University, drawn by C.D. Davison & Company, the architectural firm that designed Dalhousie's Student Union Building in 1967. Undated and stamped "preliminary," the plans indicate a library with three floors. The drawings for floors 2 and 3 are annotated with potential seating and/or stack capacity for social sciences, humanities, rare books, graduate students, research and audio visual users, as well as conceptual drawings of study carrels and audio visual booths.

Presentation drawings for a proposed arts building at Dalhousie University

File contains presentation drawings created by Andrew Cobb for an arts building commissioned by the Board of Governors as part of their building plans during the late 1920s/early 1930s, which also included a gymnasium, power plant, men's dormitory, and extensions to the Science Building and Shirreff Hall. The planned site for the building, which was cancelled due to financial restraints, was adjacent to the temporary arts building, which had been built in 1921 to house the law school. The drawings are all marked "282," which presumably was Cobb's job number for the project.

Presentation drawings for a proposed extension to the Science Building

File contains four copies of Andrew R. Cobb's drawings for an extension to the Science Building, which was commissioned by the Board of Governors as part of their building plans during the late 1920s/early 1930s, which also included an Arts Building, gymnasium, power plant, men's dormitory, and extension to Shirreff Hall. The drawings includes basement, ground and second floor plans, and north and west elevations. One copy is in pencil on tissue, two copies are blueprint and one is an electrostatic print set reproduced on polyester.

Labelled Job No. K144, Sheet Nos. 1-12, the drawings include a footings and drainage plan; floor plans; roof plan; wiring plans; and elevations. File contains copies of drawings for 6152 Coburg Road, including 1967-68 plans for renovations and extensions to the building when it served as the Nova Scotia College of Art, and 1980 renovation plans when the building was occupied by Dalhousie University School of Management. All three sets of drawings were produced by C.A. Fowler Bauld & Mitchell Ltd. File also contains a list of set ID arrangement details.

Science Block floor plans

File contains three original floor plans (first, ground and basement) for a science block for Dalhousie University, by A.R. Cobb, architect, and F. Darling, consulting architect. "Proposals from Darling for a Science Building" is written at the top of the first floor plan. File also contains three sets of blueprints, marked A, B and C, which offer different layouts for the ground and first floors.

Sketches and plans for renovations to the President's residence

File contains a set of four blueprint floor plans for the President's residence at Dalhousie University drawn by H.R. Theakston, University Engineer, in July 1925. The second floor plan indicates furniture placement and the reverse of the third floor plan is covered with handwritten notes and measurements. The file also contains six sheets of floor plans drawn up by Arthur Stanley MacKenzie, who was the first Dalhousie president to live in the house after its purchase by the university in 1925.
