Lectures 1961-62

File consists of records relating to the organizing of guest lectures presented under the auspice of the National Gallery of Canada by the Dalhousie Arts Committee for the 1961-1962 academic period.

Records consist of publicity materials for a lecture by Mr. John Woodward (Keeper, Birmingham City Museum and Art Gallery), a letter and illustrated instructions for preparation of a lecture given by Professor W. O. Judkins (Chairman, Fine Arts, McGill University), and correspondence between Mirko Usmiami (Chairman, Arts Committee) and staff of the National Gallery of Canada.

Records consist of handwritten notes, accompanying text for a lecture by Robert Rowe, M. A. (Director, Leeds City Art Gallery) including a biography, news release, and public notice. Additional records consist of correspondence between dr. Mirko Usmiami (Chairman, Art Committee, Dalhousie University) and National Gallery of Canada staff, contract agreements, and accompanying texts for a lecture from Professor G. Stephen Vickers, which was cancelled due to poor weather affecting travel.

Leather community materials

Series contains materials collected by Al Stewart as part of his involvement with the Halifax-based TightRope leather brotherhood, which was established in the early 1990s, incorporated in 1997, and disbanded in 2007. Series also contains materials related to the Mr. Atlantic Canada Leather [MACLeather] organization, which operated between 1999-2010, and the leather community more broadly. Materials include TightRope administrative and financial records, correspondence, and promotional materials; event cards, flyers, posters, programs, and certificates of participation for TightRope events, MACLeather contests, and leather events across Canada and the United States; photographs of TightRope meet-ups, MACLeather contests, and other leather community events; web print-outs; issues of the Phalia newsletter published by Spearhead leather and denim club in Toronto; erotic gear catalogues; and one copy of the 2002 Men of Pumpjack calendar.

Latham, Harold S.

File contains an undated Christmas card, likely from the 1950s or early-1960s, sent by Harold S. Latham, of Kearny, NJ (formerly chief editor of Macmillan Publishing Company), to Kenneth Leslie. File briefly recounts Latham's recent trip to Nova Scotia to visit "Five Islands on Minas Basin, Bay of Fundy", and expresses regret at not having heard from Leslie recently. Latham was Leslie's editor when he published his first collection of poems, "Windward Rock" (Macmillan, 1934).

Larry Weissmann exhibition

File consists of records related to an exhibition of works by Lawrence (Larry) Weissmann organized and presented by the Dalhousie Art Gallery in October 1971.

Fonds contains materials collected by Halifax-based AIDS activist Larry Baxter. Materials in fonds document Baxter's involvement or interactions with a variety of Nova Scotian AIDS-related organizations, including Churchmembers Assembled to Respond to AIDS [CARAS], AIDS Nova Scotia [ANS], and the Nova Scotia Persons with AIDS Coalition. These materials include administrative and financial records, internal and external reports, memos and correspondence, proposals and planning materials, workshop materials, and reference materials. Fonds also contains Baxter's collection of news clippings covering a broad range of LGBT and AIDS-related issues, and his collection of pamphlets regarding AIDS-related issues and concerns.

La Have Outfitting Company fonds

The La Have Outfitting Company fonds contains mainly financial records related to their business of outfitting and supplying vessels, as well as sales of fish, coal and salt between the years of 1905-1976. These records include invoices cash books, fish sales, journals, ledgers, vessel supply lists, accounts and lists of vessels that were insured by La Have Outfitting, as well as loans they had given out. The fonds also contains some general business correspondence, legal documents regarding insurance policies and shareholders information as well as documents relating to vessels, such as charter contracts, log books and register of vessels.

Kominsky, Morris

File contains five pieces of typed correspondence written by Morris Kominsky, of Elsinore, CA, between March and July of 1972, and sent to Kenneth Leslie. File contains Kominsky's discussions about the inclusion of his essay "The anatomy of Fascism" in a forthcoming issue of Leslie's publication "New Man" as well as Kominsky's request for dozens of copies; his desire to extend the readership of Kominsky's recent book "The Hoaxers"; and his efforts to expose an extremist plot against targets in Haiphong harbor, Vietnam.

File also contains facsimiles of correspondence sent to Kominsky, including two from sitting members of Congress: Jerome R. Waldie (14th, California) and Victor V. Veysey (38th, California) regarding threats to blow up a dredge in Haiphong harbor "that keeps [it] navigable [during the War]", as instigated in the October 1971 issue of Off-the-Cuff, written and distributed by "avowed member of the John Birch Society", ideologue Nord Davis, Jr. (fragments of which are included).

File consists of records related to the "Know Your Artist Series" exhibitions held at Dalhousie Art Gallery from April to September 1974.

Records consist of correspondence between Ernest Smith (Director, Dalhousie Are Gallery) and Philip Fry (Program of Assistant, Canada Council) regarding grant approval, exhibition schedule, a handwritten letter from Michael Fernandes and a copy of his biography, a letter from Ronald Shuebrook.
