Prints by David Silverberg exhibition

File consists of records relating to the exhibition ‘Prints by David Silverberg’, held in November 1965 at the Dalhousie Art Gallery.

Records consist of an invitation, clippings, a photocopied review by Martin Kemp, an artwork price list, text for Silverberg’s lecture on printmaking, presented during the exhibition opening, a Dalhousie University newsletter, a shipment receipt, and correspondence between Evelyn Holmes (Acting Curator, Dalhousie Art Gallery), David Silverberg (Associate-Professor, Fine Arts, Mount Allison University), and Lawren Harris (Professor, Fine Arts, Mount Allison).

Press information and other material from the 1976 royal tour

File contains documents collected by Barbara Hinds during the 1976 royal tour. Documents include itineraries for the press and the royal couple; two spiral bound notebooks of handwritten notes; photographs; a copy of the address given by Her Majesty the Queen in Halifax; a copy of a speech delivered by the Queen in Montreal; typed drafts of articles about the tour; a news release; and information about press arrangements for the tour.

Series contains duplicate posters from fonds in the Nova Scotia LGBT Seniors Archive. Materials in series include posters for the Halifax Fetish Ball, Mr. Atlantic Canada Leather [M.A.C. Leather] contests, other LGBT events in Halifax and Montreal, LGBT films, and posters and acetate negatives of posters for events held at Rumours, a bar owned and operated by the Gay and Lesbian Association of Nova Scotia [GALA].

File contains typescript and handwritten poems by Joyce Barkhouse: "Hostess" (unpublished); "The Happy Clam" (unpublished); "The Chickadee"; "Nostalgia" (rewrite); "Annapolis" (published posthumously in "Whispers of Mermaids and Wonderful Things," 2017); "The Shades of Night" (written at age 15); "Vengeance" (unpublished); "Little Hunter" (unpublished); "Snow" (published); "A Winter Prayer"; "The Frightened Witch" (published); "Little Hunter"; "First Pet"; and "After School." The file also includes a copy of "Obedience" by Isaac Watts (1674-1748).

File contains a copy of a manuscript for Alexander Brott's piano suite, which includes "Sacrilege," "Remorse," and "Conviction."

Photographs of Louise Edvina Edwardes

File contains an autographed photograph of the Montreal-born opera singer Louise Edvina Edwardes (nee Martin), known by her stage name "Madame Edvina." File also contains a print of Louise Edvina in costume from the opera "Tosca" by Giacomo Puccini. Logan's notes on the reverse side of the print and at the bottom of the photograph indicate that she was known for her creation of the title role of Louise in an opera by Gustave Charpentier.

One of the photographs shows her in costume for "The Spring Maid" by Heinrich Reinhardt, and another in costume as Marguerite for the "Jewel Song" in "Faust" by Charles Gounod for the Montreal Opera Company.

File contains a photograph of "The Three Bares" sculpture (also known as the "Friendship Fountain"), which was given to McGill University by its creator, Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, as a show of goodwill between the United States and Canada. Ellen Ballon met Whitney while in New York and reportedly suggested the donation of the sculpture. It was presented to the university in 1931 by New York Times editor John Finley in 1931.
