Oland and Son fonds

The Archives of Oland and Son Limited consists of records created by Oland and Son Limited and its affiliated companies. Some of the companies changed names after Oland and Son sold its brewing assets to John Labatt Limited. Records for these companies are included as well. Records range from 1867 to 1989, but were predominiately created between 1950 and 1971.

The Archives of Oland and Son and Affiliated Companies include a wide variety of materials, including administrative records, financial records, correspondence, photographs, advertising and marketing materials, beer production files, sales records, and legal documents. Administrative records typically include meeting minutes, annual reports, memorandums, surveys, and studies or reports on various aspects of the brewing industry and the breweries operated by Oland and Son. Beer production files typically include brewing books, yeast log books, fermentation schedules, production reports, and other records that document the beer production process. The Archives contains a large amount of correspondence between Oland and Son and its affiliated companies and various businesses, government agencies, associations, and individuals from across the Maritimes and around the world. Financial records typically include financial statements, cost reports, comparative statements, general ledgers, valuations, audit reports, and other records documenting the financial position of the various companies. Extensive advertising and marketing files exist, including advertising contracts and schedules, proofs and sketchs, reports and proposals, and budgets. The Archives also has extensive sales records documenting the sale of beer across the Maritimes, Quebec, and parts of the United States and the Caribbean. The Archives also contains hundreds of photographs and blueprints of the factories, factory equipment, and the Bluenose II.

National Farm Radio Forum fonds

Fonds contains records about the National Radio Farm Forum, a national rural listening-discussion group project. Records relate to the operations of the Nova Scotia and New Brunswick regions and consist of pamphlets, scripts, correspondence, memos, newsletters, guides, National Secretaries report, annual reports from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick regions, and minutes from the regional and national meetings and conferences from 1937-1965. Also included is an account of the activity of the Earltown, Nova Scotia Farm Forum Radio Group from the period of 1961-1962.

National Radio Farm Forum sponsored by the Canadian Association for Adult Education, the Canadian Federation of Agriculture and CBC. Initially, this program was a dramatized discussion of farm problems in wartime, arranged in cooperation with the Canadian Federation of Agriculture, and the Canadian Association for Adult Education. Eventually, it evolved into discussions by individuals from various communities across the country. The program was developed by Orville Shugg and Neil Morrison.

File consists of correspondence from John Jay, Canadian Plant and Process Engineering Limited; an appraisal of the Culverwell Holdings Limited properties Old Sackville Road/Lucasville Road by Turner Drake & Partners Limited; legal documents relating to the Quieting Titles action between Sackville Supplies Limited and the Attorney General for the Province of Nova Scotia.

Material relating to the artwork at Lindola

File consists of correspondence relating to A. M. Flemming paintings; correspondence relating to the restoration of artwork after the furnace exploded and a copy of the court documents between Lindwood Holdings Limited and Kenneth Zinck's Oil Burner Service Company regarding the furnace explosion.

Material regarding the ten views from Citadel Hill by-law

Folder contains correspondence; newspaper clippings; "Halifax Board of Trade Position on the Preservation of Views from Citadel Hill" prepared by Civic Affairs Committee, E. Grant Jarvis, Chairman and a report on what Lindwood Holdings Limited would like to present.

Material concerning the property in Upper Sackville purchased by Culverwell Holdings Limited from Lewis Leroy Maxwell

Leroy Maxwell prepared by Paul Wendt, consulting engineer; the indenture between Lewis Leroy Maxwell, Anna Mabel Maxwell and Culverwell Holdings Limited; statutory declaration; a memo referring to the transfer of property and correspondence.

Also included in the fonds are the records of the Lunenburg branch plant of Booth Fisheries Canada Company, Lunenburg Outfitting Company's president Honourable William Duff and Wilfred E. Knickle. Types of records found in the fonds are correspondence, cash books, cheque registers, fish sales and shipment books.

La Have Outfitting Company fonds

The La Have Outfitting Company fonds contains mainly financial records related to their business of outfitting and supplying vessels, as well as sales of fish, coal and salt between the years of 1905-1976. These records include invoices cash books, fish sales, journals, ledgers, vessel supply lists, accounts and lists of vessels that were insured by La Have Outfitting, as well as loans they had given out. The fonds also contains some general business correspondence, legal documents regarding insurance policies and shareholders information as well as documents relating to vessels, such as charter contracts, log books and register of vessels.
