Lecture Notes

This collection contains notes for lectures both given and attended by James Dinwiddie. The topics range from optics to trigonometry to natural history to agriculture. The notes were recorded between 1783 and 1811.

Cassette Tapes

In several instances there are two tapes with the same number. Rather then re-number the tape collection, the two tapes are labelled under one file and listed as 1 and 2 - although the actual tapes do not have 1 and 2 - the tapes are in order, next to each other in their box, and have front labels with the description of what is on each tape.

Archibald MacMechan's Research material

This series contains research material, research notes, cue cards, correspondence, illustrations, books and newspaper clippings gathered by MacMechan while he was doing research on different subjects for his lectures and his publications.

Scholarships

This series consists of materials regarding Centre for Art Tapes scholarships, and is divided into sub-series based on scholarship titles. Records include applications, correspondence, signed and unsigned contracts, lists of successful applicants, records of equipment use, and promotional materials.

Published Materials

Series contains various published materials acquired by the University Archives and added to the Shipping Reference Collection. Materials include Lloyd's Register of Ships.

Scrapbooks

This series consists of scrapbooks containing clippings pertaining to events, festivals, general theatre information, out of province activities, and productions.

Touring production records

The theatre group ran two tours: one to Toronto in 1972 and the other to Truro in 1974. Production documents and financing for the tours comprises this series.

Letters to the Editor

This series contains letters by Charles MacLennan to the editors of the Chronicle Herald and the Atlantic Advocate , with regard to Fundy Tidal Power Development. There is also a small amount of correspondence about these letters.

Fundraising records of the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra

Series contains information about donors and sponsors as well as fundraising programs such as the Corporate Sponsorship Program and governmental grants and donations, fundraising processes for the company, miscellaneous financial information, objects, and by-laws of the company. Records include correspondence, grant applications, donor lists, lottery licenses, memos, pledge cards, receipts, and press releases.

Guest artists

Series contains information on guest musicians, vocalists, and conductors contracted for performance with ASO between 1968 and 1983. Although some files pertain to musicians who ultimately did not appear with ASO, most files pertain to those who did. Records include correspondence negotiating the appearances of the guest artists as well as post-performance correspondence (such as complaints regarding the engagement in question), contracts, travel documents, newspaper clippings and copies, promotional materials such as “excerpts from the press," concert programmes, press kits and releases, advertising proofs, draft biographies, repertoire lists, resumés, memoranda, and Conductor Evaluation Sheets.

Audiovisual material

Series contains audio and video recordings either created by or submitted to the Symphony, such as audition tapes, recordings of potential repertoire or concerts, advertisements, and media coverage of the Symphony.

Administration records of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 625 (Halifax).

This series documents the administrative functions of the Local, including the records of the Executive Board, membership, and staff. Much of the day-to-day work of the business manager is represented in this series, in particular dealings with the Local's membership, recreational activities, newsletters, and dues. The Local by-laws and internal disciplinary processes resulting from infractions of said by-laws or the union's constitution are also represented.
