Biographical history
Wilfred E. Knickle (1893-1964) was the son of Captain Adam Knickle, who was the brother of Alexander Knickle, one of the founders of the ship chandler Adams and Knickle. He married Violet Barkhouse and had two sons, Lewis and Richard. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Knickle died in 1964 and is buried in Heckman's Island Cemetery.

Some of the records in this series belonged to Captain Adam Knickle. The following are subseries under Wilfred E. Knickle; correspondence, Heckman's Island School, legal, personal papers, Lunenburg Outfitting Co. and vessel papers. Correspondence consists of all correspondence by Wilfred E. Knickle; Heckman's Island School consists of auditor reports, meeting minutes, a teacher agreement and other records related to the school; Legal consists of records such as wills, deeds and insurance belonging to Adam Knickle, Wilfred Knickle and his wife and her family; Personal Papers consists of Knickle and his wife's marriage certificate, Captain Adam Knickle's shareholders book of the Bluenose schooner and various note and bank books belonging to Wilfred Knickle; Lunenburg Outfitting Co. consists of order books, printed material regarding the scallop and fish industry and an oil and gas ledger; Vessel Papers consist of records related to vessels, such as bills of sale, register of shipping and a protest.
