History

Alice Moore was born on August 25, 1917 in Halifax, NS. She got a secretary certification to help her family financially after her father died, and started working as a secretary at age 17. She met her husband Morris on her first day at work, they were married in 1942 until he passed away in 1996. They had two boys. Alice moved up to different careers during the war, and held a supervisory role at Eastern Trust. She loved working in stocks and bonds. After a rule about couples working in the same workplace was instated at Central Trust, Alice was forced to find a new job. She was encouraged to apply to the opening to be Dr. Henry Hicks’ secretary. She got the position, and in 1966 started working in the president’s office at Dalhousie. She served as secretary to President Henry Hicks from 1968-1980. After her retirement in 1980, she continued to work for Dr. Hicks for another ten years.
