Biographical history

Dr. Kaplan was born in 1922, educated at the City College of New York, and later graduated with a doctoral degree from Columbia University. He worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology at Dalhousie University from 1951-1967. As an active member in community affairs, he founded the Halifax Grammar School.

In 1981 he joined the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Alberta as a professor specializing in molecular and cellular biology. Dr. Kaplan served as the first Vice-President (Research) at the university, a position he held from 1981-1987. Dr. Kaplan passed away in 1988.

Custodial history

The materials were donated to the Dalhousie University Archives in 1984. The custodial history is unknown.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of published articles by Dr. Kaplan and a notebook of lectures on midwifery taken by an unknown individual (1866-1867).
