Fonds consists of records created by Symphony Nova Scotia in the course of its regular business activities. The majority of the records were created during the process of concert-planning, including special concerts, annual concerts, tours, and concert series. These records include artist contracts, marketing and development documents, internal memos, and correspondence with artists and sponsors.

Records also consist of internal management records, including personnel records, office management files, and the files of the Board of Directors, Executive Director, and Chief Executive Officer. The financial administration of the Symphony is documented though budgets, statements, ledgers, and tickets sales data.

The fonds also contains concert programs and promotional material such as posters, advertisements, flyers, newsletters, and other publications. The final section of the fonds consists of audiovisual and graphic material. There are audio recordings of performances and interviews of Symphony personnel as well as video recordings of advertisements and performances. The graphic material includes promotional photographs and photographs of the orchestra.

Programs and posters for concerts by Ellen Ballon

File contains a program for The Town Hall concert series in New York where Ellen Ballon performed February 13, 1943; a program from the Columbus Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Izler Solomon, with whom Ballon performed March 20, 1944; and a poster advertising Ellen Ballon, by her personal representative, Andrew Schulhof.

Pianoscript book : an invaluable aid to teacher and student in preserving important advice and lesson notes in permanent form

File contains a piano technique book used by Ellen Ballon while she was studying with Alberto Jonas in New York. Each page includes printed technical excercises and blank staff lines with some additions handwritten in pencil, presumably by Jonas or Ballon. The book includes a repertoire list of pieces Ballon performed in 1918-1919.

File contains an autograph by the soprano Alma Gluck (1884-1938) of the Metropolitan Opera Company, signed on stationary from the King Edward Hotel in Toronto. Gluck was part of the Metropolitan Opera Company from 1909 to 1913.

File contains two copies of a program for a recital given by Mrs. Chester MacDonald (soprano), Julius Silverman (violin), and Mrs. H.W. Dodwell (piano), presented by the Local Council of Women. The date of the recital has been revised from November 25, 1924 to December 9, 1924.

File contains two copies of a program from the "Address to the Graduating Classes and Opening of the Organ" (June 6, 1912). The program includes an organ recital by Mr. F.A. Moure, bursar of the university, as well as the organ's specifications and a picture. The organ was built by Cassavant Freres of St. Hyacinth, Quebec.

File contains the autographs for the Rumfords on a piece of stationary paper from Hotel Vancouver. Clara Butt-Rumford (1872-1936) was an English contralto and Kennerley Rumford (1870-1957) was an English baritone. They toured together throughout Europe and America following their marriage in 1900. This autograph was likely attained during their extended world tour (1912-1914), which encompassed Canada, the United States, and Australia.
