The common heritage of mankind : from non-living to living resources and beyond by Elisabeth Mann Borgese

File includes copies of a paper by Elisabeth Mann Borgese, written for a publication in honour of Shigeru Oda ("Liber Amicorum Judge Shigeru Oda"), on the expansion of the concept of "the common heritage of mankind" from the mineral resources of the international seabed to the ocean's living resources. The file contains a preprint version, as well as an earlier draft. The file also includes a copy of a different article by Mann Borgese, "The Common Heritage," which was published in 1974 in "Ceres" magazine (see MS-2-744, Box 174, Folder 18). File contains duplicate copies which have not been digitized.

File contains a draft of "The Law of the Sea," an analysis of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLoS), by Elisabeth Mann Borgese sent, along with a biographical blurb, to "Bulletin" (published by the UNA in Canada). The file also includes correspondence with the UNA in Canada and UNA-USA (includes a "Law Day" flyer picturing Mann Borgese).

FIle includes correspondence between Ambassador Hamilton S. Amerasinghe, permanent representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations and president of the Law of the Sea conference. Topics of discussion include Pacem in Maribus (PIM) conferences, the International Ocean Institute (and a meeting of its trustees), and Arvid Pardo and Mann Borgese's study on the New International Economic Order, as part of RIO (Reshaping the International Order). Also includes an address by Ambassador Amerasinghe given before the 1974 Caracas meeting of the conference, a brochure (from the Marga Institute), and an agenda for a conference on the New International Economic Order and the Law of the Sea.

File contains correspondence with Ambassador K. K. S. Dadzie, of the Permanent Mission of Ghana to the United Nations. Topics discussed include his attendance at the conference "The New International Economic Order and the Law of the Sea," also included is a provisional agenda for that conference.

A memorandum on the exclusive economic zone and handwritten conference notes

File contains a memo is from the Federal Republic of Germany, Singapore, Nepal, and Zambia to Reynaldo Galindo Pohl, the Chairman of the Second Committee of the Third United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea (UNCLoS III) on the concept of an economic zone. The file also contains handwritten notes by Elisabeth Mann Borgese.

International Ocean Institute brochure 'Caracas - Geneva' and untitled reports on the third session of UNCLoS

File contains a report, which was written after the fifth (5th) session of the United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea (UNCLoS) III and is of unknown authorship. The file also contains a booklet from the International Ocean Institute (IOI), on the upcoming talks in Geneva (which includes an article by Borgese, "A New Strategy").

Includes a partial version of Mann Borgese's English introduction, and a draft Italian copy "Il nuovo ordini digli oceani." File also contains a piece of correspondence to Mann Borgese and her daughters concerning Giuseppe Antonio Borgese's "Rubè."
