Collection contains documents relating to the mercantile and shipping activities of William McMillan, McMillan was active in the business between 1893 and the early 1930's. Records include receipts, invoices and other material from other merchants he purchased or sold to, correspondence regarding the shipping of those goods, papers regarding the vessels he owned or contracted to sail the material to different parts of the world and correspondence from individuals who ran the ships. Also included are telegram notices, personal correspondence and other material. This collection also contains material from the Locke Family, the Harding Family, all in Lockeport, Nova Scotia. It also contains documents from different individuals in the town of Lockeport.

Part of the material included in this collection is the research of Trevor Bebb. He was working on the shipping history of Lockeport and the surrounding areas and as such has collected a great deal of material. Included in his papers are research notes, photocopies of shipping and customs records, diaries and logs, and printed material.

This sousfonds contains research notes relating to the history of Shipping and Shipbuilding, Lockeport Businesses, Shelburne County History, Nova Scotia History and the West Indies trade. This material consists of handwritten notes or photocopies of original documents. There are a few documents that are listed under the “Printed material” series that are original printed documents.

Sousfonds contains correspondence from Captain Charles Smith and his wife; Letters to Edwin and Evangeline Williams; Fred Griffin; Charles Stewart. Sousfonds also contains a history of Allendale, material about schools, municipal tax list, receipt books, material on Lockeport Ships, a list of vessels and a guest book all relating to Lockeport, Nova Scotia.

Guest Book/ Scrapbook

The book begins as a guest book for the year 1888 for Clifton House, owned by Jacob G. Locke. It evolves into a scrap book with newspaper clippings pasted inside on the pages, interspersed with guest signings. As many pages are loose it is unclear whether the pages containing the newspaper clippings are in the right place. Some pages with newspaper clippings have had the articles torn out, leaving part of the clipping behind. The book then turns into a child's sketchbook, with several children practicing drawing and writing out sentences and names.

Financial Records of William McMillan

Series contains items like bills of sale, invoices, receipts, ledgers and sales accounts from various companies. If file contains some correspondence but consists mostly of the aforementioned material, it will be placed in this series.
