Scrapbook page with a portrait of T.H. Raddall, Sr. with his rifle division, the R.C.R.I. Rifle Team at the Coate's Match, Rockcliffe Range in Ottawa, Ontario, and photographs of Thomas Head Raddall around Nova Scotia

Item may have been a page in one of Thomas Head Raddall's photograph albums. The photographs are either duplicates of or related to material in Thomas Head Raddall's photograph album, 1917-1927. T.H. Raddall, Sr. can be found holding the telescope in the middle of the front row in the portrait of the rifle division. On the reverse side of the scrapbook page, the photographs on the left and right of Thomas Head Raddall are duplicates from the aforementioned album. The photograph on the left was taken in North Sydney in 1920, and the photograph on the right was taken in Point Pleasant Park in 1921. The photograph in the bottom middle may have been taken at Sable Island.

Item is a copy of a photograph in Thomas Head Raddall's photograph album, 1917-1927. The trawler Fabia was from Boston, and was equipped with diving and salvage gear. In the summer of 1921, the Fabia was financed by the Boston Post to raise the schooner Esperanto in order to defend the latter's title to the Herald Cup. The efforts to put the schooner back into service ultimately failed.

"Chanties and Other Songs of the Sea" : [manuscript]

Item is a collection of transcribed sea chanties, as sung aboard vessels out of Liverpool, Nova Scotia in the 1870's, 1880's, and 1890's, and recalled in whole or part by William H. Smith, of Liverpool, N.S. (born 1867). The words were taken down and prepared in typescript by his son T. Brenton Smith, in the year 1940. Includes the following chanties: "The Loss of the Emma-Jane," "Lay Out, Tack Sheets and Haul," "Bound to Rio," "Blow the Man Down," "Old Hoss," "Screwing in Song," "Way Down in Tennessee," "The City of Baltimore," "Around the World and Home Again," "Old Mother Head's," "Sauer Kraut," "Arriving back at Liverpool," "The Mary," "Brigantine Scrocco," "The Big Five Gallon Jar," "Shiloh Brown," "Shanadore [Shenandoah]," "What You Going to do with a Drunken Sailor," "Goodbye, Fare Ye Well," "Say Old Man," "Harbour Grace," "Liverpool Packet," "Fire in the Foretop," "Sailor's Burial at Sea," "On the Banks of the Sacremento," "Rolling Home to Merry England," "Then Turn out You Jolly Tars," "Whiskey for my Johnnie," "The Banks of Newfoundland," "Hangman Johnnie," "On the Plains of Mexico," "We'll Pay Paddy Doyle for his Boots," "Isle of Fugi," "Old England's Gained the Day," and "Walking in de Middle of de Road." The photograph has a stamp marking it copyright to the Nova Scotia Bureau of Information on the reverse side. The wooden bust on the left was carved by Milton-based woodcarver, George Crouse, whose work was prominent in the 1850's and 60's. Crouse carved figureheads and bow devices for many newly built Liverpool (Nova Scotia) ships. The bust in the photograph is a childhood likeness of Captain Samuel Kempton who also hailed from Milton. Kempton was the skipper of a packet schooner for many years that ran the Halifax - Liverpool - Boston route.
