Interview with John Paterson

File consists of video recordings and a transcription of an interview with John Paterson. The interview was conducted by Anna Quon at the Gorsebrook Institute on the Saint Mary`s University Campus on October 19, 2010. This was the fifth interview conducted as part of the Our Voices Matter Project. The interview touches on a wide range of topics, including John's childhood in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, experiences with anxiety and depression, and other aspects of his personal life.

Recording of an interview with Dr. Alexander Leighton

File contains a cassette tape recording of Barbara Hinds' interview with Dr. Alexander Leighton, a psychiatrist. The interview is about an investigation into the incidence of mental illness in western Nova Scotia. This is the fourth in a series of four interviews. The file also contains two typed scripts of intros and outros for two interviews with Dr. Leighton.

Drafts of social data and psychiatric questionnaires for Cornell-Aro Mental Health Research Project

File contains early drafts of the community respondent social data and psychiatric questionnaires and a survery from Aro Hospital concerning displaced and detribalised people. Also contains a memo justifying the questions used and an appendix containing a blank copy of the final draft of the questionnaire.

Reliability analysis between psychiatrists

File contains an appendix (Appendix F) outlining procedures in comparing psychiatric evaluators' thought processes and conclusions surrounding the mental health of respondents of the Cornell-Aro study. File also includes information on analysis coding and a chart outlining mental health symptom statistics.

Nigerian movie

Files contains documents relating to the film "Mental Health Research in Nigeria" that was filmed during the 1961 Cornell-Aro study. Included are memos discussing the film's production and release, notes on filming scenes, a brochure for Cornell's program in social psychiatry, film production and narration notes, comments from researchers, and letters between researchers, librarians, and contacts in the Nigerian government. File also includes a publication called "African film bibliography 1965" by the Committee of Fine Arts and the Humanities of the African Studies Association.

File contains a computer printout dataset of frequency distribution comparison between Jane Murphy's and Alex Inkeles' data. Also includes copies of several of Inkeles' published articles: "The fate of personal adjustment in the process of modernization," "The OM scale: a comparative socio-psychological measure of individual modernity," "Some social psychological effects and noneffects of literacy in a new nation," "The modernization of man," and "Making men modern: on the causes and consequences of individual change in six developing countries."

Yoruba-Stirling HOS analysis

File contains charts and datasets tracking demographic, social, and psychiatric statistics from Yoruba and Stirling Country respondents. Also contains notes on and memos regarding HOS coding for studying the role of women. Includes analysis cards for Stirling and Yoruba social and psychiatric data and master lists for sample coordination.
