Immortal coil and Fragments : [sound recordings by the Upstream Ensemble]

File contains the studio mastering tape for Paul Cram's composition "Immortal coil" and Don Palmer's composition "Fragments," completed at Solar Audio Recording studio in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The recordings are on Upstream's CD, "Open Water" (track 7, 8 min., 20 sec., and track 5, 5 min., 38 sec., respectively). Audio reel box includes a track sheet.

File contains nine annotated copies of "Silent Movies," a composition by Paul Cram in two parts written at concert pitch. The reverse side of one of the copies includes a set list for "Talk Show," which was part of the 1997 Open Waters Festival.

Bird gong game : [score]

Item is two excerpted pages from Barry Guy's score for the "Bird Gong Game," the first page with performance instructions and the first of four sections of the score. The score uses both common music notation and graphic notation. It was written for the Scottish artist and musician, Alan Davie, and based on Davie's painting Bird Gong No. 12. The score is written at concert pitch.

File contains Sandy Moore's proposal to the Board of Directors for the concert; correspondence sent to Akikazu Nakamura and Miwa Inaba; resumes for Nakamura and Inaba; budget for the concert; media release; and correspondence with the Canada Council for the Arts regarding the Japan-Canada Fund.

Artistic Director meeting minutes and financial records

File includes minutes of Artistic Directors meetings; Board meetings; budgets and project descriptions by performance season; a copy of the Memorandum of Association and By-Laws of Upstream Music Association; an Upstream mailing list; and copies of grant applications. These documents were likely used by Jeff Reilly during his term as Artistic Director for the association, given the various annotations on the records.

Application to Nova Scotia Department of Tourism and Culture

File contains Upstream Music Association's application to the fund for "Assistance to Organizations for Special Projects in the Performing Arts" for April 12, 1992 to April 24, 1993, rough drafts of the application, and related correspondence. File also includes a letter of support from Saint Mary's University Art Gallery and a letter sent from Upstream to the Charles H. Ivey Foundation requesting support for the upcoming 1993-1994 season.
