1959 trip to Nigeria

File contains documents relating to Alexander Leighton's 1959 trip to Nigeria. Includes a photograph, several bundles of research notes, schedules, graphic materials, and patient medical notes. Includes an article from the New York Times on the Nigerian election, and no. 10 of the Western Nigerian Illustrated quarterly publication featuring an article about psychiatric treatment at the Aro Hospital. Also includes an envelope labelled 'thought disorder pills' containing five spherical pills.

Batik tapestries by Louis Steyn

File consists of records related to the exhibition 'South African Batik Tapestries by Louis Steyn' presented by The Art Gallery, Memorial University, Newfoundland and organized in collaboration with Gallery 101, Johannesburg. The exhibition was presented at the Dalhousie Art Gallery in October 1967 and again in April 1970.

Records consist of correspondence between Evelyn Holmes (Acting Curator, Dalhousie Art Gallery) and Peter Bell (Curator, Memorial University), and purchasers of works in the exhibition, an excerpt of the Peter Wenger exhibition catalogue titled 'Some Notes on Batik', a photograph of an installed tapestry and gallery visitor, two draft catalogues, a copy of South African Scope containing a feature on Steyn's work on p. 6-7.

Childhood photographs of Marq de Villiers

File contains a photograph of Marq de Villiers as a small child, wearing a pith helmet and holding a sand shovel, and a photograph marked on the back with "Marq's oupa [grandfather] looking at the dam [with] Terry and Jennifer, Leo's children." On Marq's website, this image appears with the caption: "With grandfather and sister, surveying the state of the world’s water, 1944."

Jos Plateau

File consists of a variety of research notes compiled by James Morrison that span 1973 to 1975. The file contains 1 envelope with three black and white photographs of a pot fragment from Birom, Jarawa. The envelope is addressed to "J Starken c/o Prof Gavin, Dept of History, ABU Zaria". File contains John M. Samci's business card (permanent secretary at the Ministry of Trade & Industry, Benue-Plateau State, Jos.). The file has a collection of loose papers of research notes, oral history interview notes, notes on Zaria, and 2 copies of a typed abstract.

Nigerian study staff

File contains photographs of staff members of the Nigerian study. Also includes photos from the Pan-African Psychiatric Conference and a group photo, possibly of the African Students Association of Cornell University.

Photographs related to the Jos Plateau

File consists of 17 photographs taken by James Morrison in 1973 in the Jos Plateau in Nigeria. The photographs are mostly landscapes and three images of James Morrison and Albert Gwom, there is one image of James Morrison's desk in Vom. The photographs are of the Ganawuri Hills, Vwang Hills, Riyom, and Vom. There are handwritten inscriptions with a place name, year and direction of camera on the back of each photograph.
