File is an audio reel containing an interview with Ranjana Kumari, director of the Centre for Social Research in New Delhi and vice president of the All-India Women's Association. Kumari, in Halifax for a month-long summer programme called Gender and Development, spoke with CKDU's Steve Balyi on new legislation in India to protect women from wife battering. Kumari also spoke about her book, "Brides are for Burning: Dowry Victims in India." The interview aired June 7, 1988 and was rebroadcast June 10, 1988 on Title Waves, a CKDU radio program.
