Budgeting and accounting

This series contains materials regarding Centre for Art Tapes budgeting and accounting. Records include statistical profiles, invoices, correspondence, financial statements, audits and unaudited financial statements.

Flyers

Flyers were the group's most prolific mode of promotion. Both theatre productions and community programming are represented.

Programs

Programs provide detailed information about the productions and represent almost all productions mounted within the 4 year period of the group's history.

Press reviews

Press reviews covering almost every Pier One presentation were collected. They come from a multitude of sources including magazines and newspapers. Drafts of radio reviews and handwritten drafts of printed reviews are also represented.

Organizational management

This series contains information on the organization of Pier One as a theatre production company. The hierarchy of the group is outlined and information given about actors involved with the group. Worksheets detail procedures followed by members in the preparation and mounting of productions, including everyday upkeep of the organization and its facilities.

Workshop programming

Pier One developed workshops for both children and adults. This series contains records pertaining to program development, financing, and promotion.

Touring production records

The theatre group ran two tours: one to Toronto in 1972 and the other to Truro in 1974. Production documents and financing for the tours comprises this series.

Salt fishery

Series consists of records relating to the salt fish industry. These records include correspondence and information from various trade countries across the world, fish contracts, salt fish prices and catch amounts, records of the Canadian Salt Fish Corporation, and problems with the salt fish industry.

Operational records

Series consists of records relating to all aspects of the fishing industry, inshore and offshore and predominantly relating to Atlantic Canada, which were created and collected by the Association. Some of the types of records include notes, correspondence, meeting minutes and notes, photographs, publications, memorandums/circulars, and reports and briefs that focus on topics such as export and trade, fishing zones, fish species, processing, safety, government regulations and proposals, fish quotas, marketing, the decline of the fisheries, shipments, and fishing vessels.

Non business papers

This series consists of records donated with the Acadian Supplies Company fonds but are not directly related to the business. Types of records include church papers for the Parish of Saint John in Lunenburg and the LaHave United Church, correspondence by Lunenburg Mayor Douglas Adams, and records belonging to the Lunenburg Curling Club and the Lunenburg Yacht Club.

Sales and shipping operations

This series contains administrative and operational records for Acadian Supplies Company and Acadian Vessel Company These records include tenders, annual statements for the joint stock registry, Dominion Statistic surveys and directors listing.

Administrative Records of Himmelman Supply Company

Series contains administrative records from Himmelman Supply Company. This includes blueprints, a list of shipping agents and a meeting minute book. See Administrative Sub-Series for O.K. Service Shipping Limited, Oakland Shipping Limited, and La Have Shipping Limited for additional administrative records.

Correspondence of Himmelman Supply Company and Affiliated Companies

Series contains correspondence from Himmelman Supply Company and its affiliated companies, including O.K. Service Shipping Limited, Oakland Shipping Limited, La Have Shipping Limited, Himmelman Shipping Limited, Himmelman Supermarket Limited, La Have Investments Limited, and Nova Hereford Farms. Most records in the series were originally filed with the correspondence of Himmelman Supply Company. Correspondence involves shipping activities, purchases of ships and ship equipment, financial and legal activities of Himmelman Supply Company and its affiliated companies, and other business- related activities. Series also includes a Shipping Contracts and Agreements Sub-Series that contains legal agreements, contracts, and notarized statements that were included with correspondence files. Financial Records of Himmelman Supply Company

Series contains the financial records of Himmelman Supply Company, including the general ledger, audited and unaudited annual financial statements, general statements, trial balance ledgers, and financial claims and proposals. Financial records for each vessel are found in the Series for that vessel. See the Financial Sub- Series for O.K. Service Shipping Limited, La Have Shipping Limited, Oakland Shipping Limited, and Lawrence Himmelman for additional financial records.

La Have Shipping Limited

Series consists of a meeting minute book, financial statements, list of shareholders and directors and correspondence to shareholders. Records relating to the vessel O.K. Service XI can be found in the O.K. Service XI series. The series is broken into four subseries: Administrative; Correspondence; Financial and Legal.

Nova Hereford Farms

Series contains correspondence and meeting minutes from the Canadian Hereford Association and the Canadian Hereford Board of Directors. It also contains herd reduction sales catalogues, production sales reports, cattle weight certificates, and correspondence with various organizations.

M/V "O.K. Service"

Series primarily contains the vessel papers of the second M/V "O.K. Service," including manifests, bills of lading, loading charts, captain's and the chief officer's daily logbooks, and other records. Some manifests from the original M/V "O.K. Service" are also included.

O.K. Service (Ship).

M/V "O.K. Service III"

Series contains the vessel papers of the M/V "O.K. Service III." Series primarily consists of manifests, but also includes a capacity plan.

O.K. Service III (Schooner).

M/V "O.K. Service V"

Series contains the administrative, financial, legal, and vessel papers of the M/V "O.K. Service V." Contents include blueprints of the vessel, audited and unaudited financial statements, a memorandum of agreement outlining the sale of the vessel. The series primarily contains vessel papers, including Captain's daily logs, a sampling of engine room logs, bills of lading, manifests and freight lists, agreements, notarized statements, insurance policies, certificats of damage, loading charts, and related records.

O.K. Service V.

M/V "O.K. Service VI"

Series contains the financial and vessel papers of the M/V "O.K. Service VI." Contents of the series include monthly financial statements, Captain's daily logbooks, a sample of engine room logs, bills of lading, manifests and freight lists, certificates of damage, notarized statements, insurance policies, and other documents created during voyages to ports in the Caribbean and Central and South America.

M/V "O.K. Service X"

This series consists of blueprints, captains logs, vessel papers that include bills of lading, manifest and cargo plans and lists, sample of engine room logs and refit list. The following are subseries under the series O.K. Service X: Blueprints; Log Books; and Vessel Papers.

Catalogues

Series contains catalogues of various products manufactured by L.E. Shaw. Series also contains catalogues and bulletins collected by the company.

Operations

This series contains sales receipts, payroll records, financial statements, stock lists and work related operations. The series also contains a Customs, Canada, Export Entry application.

R. G. Dun Credit Reports

The R. G. Dun Credit Reports are a window into the lives of general merchants, businessmen, and farmers in the early 1900s. These reports paint a picture of the financial hardships Canadians faced in the years leading up to World War I.

Acadia Fisheries

Series consists of documents created and used by Acadia Fisheries, a subsidiary of A. M. Smith and Co. These documents include correspondence with business associates and government departments; administrative documents relating to the construction of the Mulgrave Plant; legal agreements and contracts; and financial statements and related documents (loan applications, inventories, operational estimates).

N + M Smith

This series contains various documents related to the operations of N. & M. Smith, which was a predecessor to A.M. Smith and Company. The series is divided into sub-series Correspondence, Legal, Financial, and Printed Matter, and contains material such as letters, deeds, vessel papers, plans, cable code books, export schedules, and other documents mostly related to late 19th and early 20th century shipping.

Salt Fish

This series contains various materials related to the production and sale of salt fish: samples of packaging from different fish companies and products, factory plans and blueprints, directory of suppliers and dealers, industry reports. Also includes newsletters, minutes, reports, and other documents issued by the Canadian Atlantic Salt Fish Exporters Association, of which A. M. Smith Co. was a member.

Shipping

This series contains a variety of information related to the process of shipping goods by A.M. Smith and Company. This includes vessel papers, freight rates and contracts, export order and papers, papers regarding rates and regulations for shipping, and customs forms. Some items kept as examples of the procedures involved in shipping goods, such as contact lists, reports, and cable code books.

Smith Canneries

Series consists of documents created and used by Smith Canneries, a subsidiary of A. M. Smith and Co. The majority of files in this series are correspondence with various organizations with which they did business. There are several financial folders, which include financial statements, income tax returns, ledgers, journals, documentation of operating costs. The series also contains agreements, deeds, and other legal documents.

Vatcher

Series contains administrative, correspondence, financial, legal, and other printed material from L.W. Vatcher Limited, a subsidiary of A.M. Smith and Co. Vatcher was also engaged in fisheries and fish exporting. Correspondence in this series is addressed to business clients and partners around the world and includes many of the same addressees as the Correspondence Series. The correspondence covers all aspects of business operations, including fish sales and exports, pricing, shipping routes and schedules, and general operations of the company. Financial records include account ledgers, certificates, insurance claims, budget reports, and other documents related to the financial management of the company. Legal records include deeds, contracts, agreements, and other documents related to the incorporation and documentation of the company's assets and activities. Printed materials include newspaper clippings, an annual report of the Bank of Nova Scotia, and two cable code books.

Brochures

This series consists of brochures for various businesses, weekly freight reports, notices and similar documents relating to shipping.

Harza Administrative Records

This series contains administrative records, including a considerable amount of internal correspondence and memos the majority of which pertain to Charles MacLennan's activities with Harza. The specific project files in this series are valuable for their insight into the administration of various Harza projects. These records serve as examples as to how the company was organized and maintained.

HARCAN

This series deals with the Canadian corporation created by Harza, referred to as both HARCAN and Harza of Canada. The records mainly detail the creation of the Canadian company, as well as the development of policies and procedures. Information about HARCAN's fate is difficult to find, although records in the collection hint that it was an unsuccessful venture.

Tidal Power Consultants

Tidal Power Consultants Limited was a corporation created to carry out studies concerning the Bay of Fundy Tidal Power Project for the Atlantic Tidal Power Engineering and Management Committee as necessary. Four sponsoring firms all have abundant experience in the utilization of electrical power and water resources: Montreal Engineering Company Limited, The Shawnigan Engineering Company Limited, Harza of Canada Limited, and Balfour Beatty Power Consultants Canada Limited. Dr. E. L. Wilson from Sheffield University is a special consultant to the group, since he has done extensive studies on tidal power projects in Britain.

The series contains notes, correspondence, and clippings concerning Tidal Power Consultants (TPC). There are some administrative records of the organization itself, but the majority concern records about various projects that TPC were involved in or were researching.
