Correspondence from Jane C. Greenham to Archibald Leighton

File contains letters from Jane C. Greenham written from Belfast between 1906-1914. Jane worked in the office of J.W. Stewart, the building contractor with whom Archie was apprenticed when he first went to Sligo and met Gertrude Hamilton. She was also a correspondent of of Gertrude's. Folder 23 contains two small photographs of Jane that were loose among the letters: on the reverse of one is written "painfully true to life."

File contains letters and postcards from Alex from Arizona, where he undertook social analysis at the Poston (Japanese-American) Relocation Center in his wartime role as a Navy Medical Corps psychiatrist. Enclosed in some letters are memos and reports. There are also letters written from Chicago, where Dorothea was living during this period.

Letters to Gertrude Leighton from her son, Alex, 1949

File contains letters written by Alex from Trumansburg, New York; Ireland; and Santa Fe, New Mexico. In a note dated Dec. 5, 1949 he writes that his "journal has dropped behind," and his letters to his mother from this date forward do seem to take on the characteristics of journal entries; he writes weekly, using half-sheets of paper, often typewritten and using carbon paper to make a second copy.

Correspondence to Gertrude Leighton from her children, Alex and Gertrude (Gussie)

Subseries contains letters and cards written to their mother by Alex and Gertrude (Gussie) Leighton. The bulk of Gertrude's letters were written from boarding school in Kent while her mother lived in hotels nearby or with her family in Ireland.
