Board of Directors

Series consists of bylaws, circulars, correspondence, handbooks, lists of board members. memos, and agendas, minutes, reports, and financial statements from regular and annual Board of Directors meetings.

Fundraising records of the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra

Series contains information about donors and sponsors as well as fundraising programs such as the Corporate Sponsorship Program and governmental grants and donations, fundraising processes for the company, miscellaneous financial information, objects, and by-laws of the company. Records include correspondence, grant applications, donor lists, lottery licenses, memos, pledge cards, receipts, and press releases.

General files of the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra

Series contains general administration files created by the administrative activities of the ASO. Records include correspondence, artist pamphlets and catalogues, contracts, reports (including auditor's reports), planning documents, surveys, advertising proofs, memoranda, transcriptions, and committee meeting minutes, summaries and policies. The series also includes applications for positions in the orchestra as well as records relating to auditions.

Guest artists

Series contains information on guest musicians, vocalists, and conductors contracted for performance with ASO between 1968 and 1983. Although some files pertain to musicians who ultimately did not appear with ASO, most files pertain to those who did. Records include correspondence negotiating the appearances of the guest artists as well as post-performance correspondence (such as complaints regarding the engagement in question), contracts, travel documents, newspaper clippings and copies, promotional materials such as “excerpts from the press," concert programmes, press kits and releases, advertising proofs, draft biographies, repertoire lists, resumés, memoranda, and Conductor Evaluation Sheets.

Orchestra members

Series documents contractual agreements and formal correspondence between orchestra members and ASO's governing body. These files contain audition applications, resumes, employment contracts, correspondence, government confirmation of employment forms, immigration forms, and biographical information.

Public relations

Series primarily relates to advertising, promotional and biographical material about the individual members or orchestra directors, programming information about specific performances, and programme planning and working schedules. Records include advertising information, donor booklets, brochures, correspondence, Christmas cards by ASO, Halifax Symphony advertising and programme material, profiles, memos, subscription information, and press clippings. The material in this series was created by the support committees in Halifax and Sydney, Nova Scotia, and Saint John, Moncton and Fredericton, New Brunswick. The documents created by the individual support committees relate to their promotional efforts for shows in those particular cities. In addition, some documents pertain to the Halifax Symphonette.

Union

Series relates to the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra's dealings with local and international musicians' unions and individual members thereof throughout its existence. Records include collective agreements, contracts, correspondence, records about disputes and negotiations, records from the players' committee and probationary review committee, position papers, and stewards' reports.
