Most of the photographs are undated but seem to span the entirety of her adult life. The last photograph in the album is of Ballon receiving her honorary doctorate from McGill University in 1954.

McDonald (1876-1952). James' wife, Mary McDonald (1879-1967) is holding their infant son, Duncan Davidson McDonald (1908-1985).
