File contains statements and press releases from the permanent representatives to the United Nations from the United Kingdom, Ukraine, the United States, Fiji, Cyprus, the People's Republic of China, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Sweden, Indonesia, Japan, Peru,the Group of 77 (Colombia), Australia, and Denmark. Some statements were from the forty-seventh (47th) session of the United Statements General Assembly, and others from the First Commission on Science and Technology.

File contains a revised version of the statement given at the conclusion of Pacem in Maribus (PIM) VI on the United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea (UNCLoS). Includes a covering letter from Elisabeth Mann Borgese to members of the Planning Council. The file also contains material relating to a course (“Malta ’76: An Introduction to the Sea”) offered by the International Ocean Institute (IOI), an outline for the “Ocean Yearbook,” material on a seminar on “The New International Economic Order and the Law of the Sea,” and the announcement of Jan Pronk’s appointment as an IOI Board member.

Item consists of a draft manuscript copy of Howard Wilcox's 1977 paper "Synthetic Fuels from Ocean Farms", collected by Elisabeth Mann Borgese, which 'aims to explore and develop the ability to raise giant California kelp (Macrocystis pyrifera) and/or other seaweeds, plants, and marine animals throughout the tropical and temperate oceans'.

Technology cooperation by Elisabeth Mann Borgese : [two papers]

File contains a paper by Elisabeth Mann Borgese, on the importance of a "technology transfer" to poor (mainly southern) nations to allow them to achieve sustainable development with respect to their ocean resources. It was originally filed with papers from the Geneva meetings in October, 1996, and may have been presented to members of IWCO (Independent World Commission on the Oceans) during those meetings. The file folder also contains a shorter version of a paper on the same topic, which was sent to Bill Faries. File contains duplicate copies which have not been digitized.

File contains the document "Tentative Schedule of the United Nations and UNIDO Meetings for 1995" as published by the Secretariat at the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), Interpretation and Meetings Service. As stated on the schedule, "this list contains meetings of those UN bodies and offices location at the VIC, any other UN meetings convened at Vienna, meetings of UNIDO (United Nations International Development Organization) convened at Vienna and elsewhere, and meetings of the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) for which interpretation is provided by UNOV."

File includes copies of a paper by Elisabeth Mann Borgese, written for a publication in honour of Shigeru Oda ("Liber Amicorum Judge Shigeru Oda"), on the expansion of the concept of "the common heritage of mankind" from the mineral resources of the international seabed to the ocean's living resources. The file contains a preprint version, as well as an earlier draft. The file also includes a copy of a different article by Mann Borgese, "The Common Heritage," which was published in 1974 in "Ceres" magazine (see MS-2-744, Box 174, Folder 18). File contains duplicate copies which have not been digitized.
