Biographical history

Dan Lander was born in 1953 in Oshawa, Ontario and educated at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. During his education, Lander focused in performance, video and sound. Lander became associated with the Centre for Art Tapes in 1984 because of his involvement with a video recording entitled “2 videos by Halifax independent producers” which became a part of their tape collection.

David Clark is a media artist who utilizes the internet as a cinematic format. Clark also uses an experimental narrative form within his media work. Clark is a professor in Media Arts at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Clark’s education includes Fine Arts in 1984 at the University of Calgary, a BFA in 1985 at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and a MFA in 1989 from the School of Art Institute of Chicago

The tape was donated to the Dalhousie University Archives in 2013 by the Centre for Art Tapes.

Scope and content

Item consist of two video works created in 1984 : Tall Ships by Dan Lander; Drift by David Clark. Video was produced through the Centre for Art Tapes. Videos part of Halifax Independent Producers series (4 of 5). Tall Ships investigates the role of TV media on the way we perceive everyday occurrences. Drift is an experimental tape full of cliches.
