Biographical history

George McQueen was born in 1858, the only surviving son of Daniel McQueen and Catherine Olding. He attended Dalhousie University from 1875-1878 and taught school in Nova Scotia for one year. In 1879 he moved to New York City, where he found employment in a number of companies. He had a brief marriage and died alone in a rooming house in 1899 at the age of 41.

Custodial history

Records were donated to Dalhousie University Archives by Mrs. Relief Williams Mackay in accessions (50-88) and (54-88) in 1988.

Scope and content

Fonds contains photocopies of G.W. McQueen's letters to his mother and sister while he was attending Dalhousie University; G.W. McQueen's annotated textbook, Introduction to Anglo-Saxon (1875); and G.W. McQueen's notebooks from Professor Lawson's junior chemistry class (1876-1877) and Professor Lyall's psychology class (1877).
