Biographical history

Paul Cram was born on August 11, 1952 in Victoria, British Columbia. He completed his Bachelor of Music at the University of British Columbia in 1978. He formed the Paul Cram Trio in 1982 and several other groups including The Solar System Saxophone Quartet; The Kings of Sming; The Paul Cram Quintet; and the Paul Cram Orchestra. In 1987, he co-founded Hemispheres, a new jazz/ new music ensemble in Toronto, Ontario. He moved to Halifax in 1989, where he was a founding member and artistic director of the Upstream Music Ensemble (1990-2015). Cram is known for his new music compositions and his collaborative approach to music performance. He died on March 20, 2018.
