History
The Fountain School of Performing Arts was created in 2014 from the former Departments of Music and Theatre. It was funded by a $10 million donation by the Fountain family and is the only university performing arts school east of Montreal.
Places
The Fountain School of Performing Arts is housed in the Dalhousie Arts Centre on Studley Campus. The school's performance spaces currently include the Sir James Dunn Theatre and the David Mack. Murray Studio. Under construction is a three-storey addition to the Seymour Street side of the Dalhousie Arts Centre, which will house the Strugg Recital Hall.

The Fountain School of Performing Arts offers programs in music, theatre and media and cinema studies leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree, as well as an MA in musicology. The school supports and stages public events in theatre, opera, concerts and masterclasses, as well as organizing ensembles for students and the wider university community. The school also hosts the David Schroeder Music & Culture Lecture Series.

The basic statute relating to Dalhousie University is Chapter 24 of the Acts of 1863. This statute replaced earlier statutes, and the 1863 statute itself has been amended and supplemented several times over the years. The provisions of these various statutes provide for the establishment and regulation of the university, the membership of the Board of Governors and its rights and powers, the authority of senate for the internal regulation of the university (subject to the approval of the board), and various other matters.

The Fountain School of Performing Arts is within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. It is overseen by a limited-term director appointed from among the full-time faculty, and five associate directors. The school's faculty, both part-time and full -time instructors and professors, are internationally recognized performers, directors, composers and scholars, many of whom have cross appointments with other departments. The school is supported by four administrative officers and assistants.
