The project was a potential two-part television movie based on Alfred Silver's novel Acadia that was to tell the story of Charles de la Tour and Charles d'Aulnay and their historical battles to gain control of Acadie in the 17th century. This series contains agreements, applications, biographies, a budget, correspondence, a distribution plan, one-sheets, outlines, schedules, and scripts.

A.M. Smith and Company's printed material

This series contains a variety of information related to operations at A.M. Smith and Company, but not created by the company. This includes newspaper clippings, blueprints, manuals procedures and regulations, conference proceedings, reference books, and a scrapbook on fishing (which is composed primarily of newspaper and magazine clippings, and correspondence).

Customer records

This series contains records of Dominion Chair Company's customers. These customers were not limited to the Bass River region or even Nova Scotia - regular clients include ones based in the Maritime Provinces, New England, Great Britain, and the Caribbean. Although there is no comprehensive customer list available, this series provides a glimpse into its various business partnerships. It includes: lists of customers from 1900 and 1931; a list of customers who were audited by the company; lists of orders placed by companies during the period 1892-1944 (note there is not one available for every year in this period).

Employee records

This series contains records of Dominion Chair Company's employees during the first half of the twentieth century. The majority of the records are time books, which provide employee names, the number of hours, or days, they worked, and their wages. The six time books often each contain two years of data, and were created between 1901 and 1943. Employee records also include a payroll journal, bonus sheet, a notebook of an employee's travel expenses, and a book describing the amount of wood hauled by each employee.

Export papers

This series consists of Customs and Sales Tax Drawback Claims completed by the Dominion Chair Company between the years of 1930-1941. These government tax forms include lists of the company's exports for the year, including the names of the destinations, and value of each shipment.

Journals

This series contains a selection of the Dominion Chair Company's general journals that were kept between the years of 1874 and 1950. Employees used these journals on a daily basis to record all transactions. The journal created during the period of 1924-1950 includes annual sales statistics for the years 1925-1927. The majority of these journals have been de-accessioned, but the three that remain in the collection are representative of the time period and material they covered.

Reports and shareholder papers

This series contains documents generated by, or pertaining to, the directors and shareholders of the Dominion Chair Company. These documents include 14 annual Directors' Reports published between 1909 and 1943, letters to shareholders, a newsletter, an analysis of the company's "special loans," lists of shareholders and investors (including those who did not live in the Bass River). This series provides a glimpse into the organizational structure and management of the company, as well as its economic performance during the first half of the twentieth century.

Sales Invoice Copy book

These are Sales Invoice Copy Books for the Dominion Chair Company that are representative of both the range of sales as well as the invoices practices that they employed. These invoices reflect sales to many different countries, including the Caribbean, Ireland and South Africa while clearly showing the majority of their sales in the different areas of the Maritimes.

Correspondence of the Scott Paper Company

Series consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence. Correspondents include clients, vendors, personnel, associations, government departments and representatives (both federal and provincial), and insurance companies. Correspondents were located in Nova Scotia, throughout the Atlantic Provinces, the United States, and overseas including Great Britain, Europe, South America, and Asia. The series contains information about products being used by the company, their customer base, employment practices, etc. Some material from the series was discarded (namely invoices and unsolicited mail) and the series was arranged alphabetically by archivist.

Legal

This series contains indentures, court summons, a lumber agreement between Adam Roy and David Pratt and insurance policies on the business recording how much they were insured for and what types of insurance they held.

Sales and operations

Scope and Content This series contains records relating to the sales and operations of the business. Some of these records include lumber surveying and supplies, scale records, market and credit reports, freight rates and circulars. A plan of a building is located in the oversize materials.

Vessel papers of Frieze and Roy

This series consists of records related to vessels owned or operated by Frieze and Roy. The majority of the records include insurance policies for the vessels and charter parties. Some other records include protests, manifests, bills of landing and crew lists. Some correspondence is also located in this series. A sketch of a brigantine is located in the oversize material

Bass River Picnic

This series contains documentation of two community picnics hosted by the Dominion Chair Company in Bass River in 1939 and 1941. The files include receipts of purchases made for the charitable event, as well as itemized lists of expenditures and profits. In 1941, the funds raised by the picnic were donated by the company to the Queen's Canadian Fund for Air Raid Victims.

HARCAN

This series deals with the Canadian corporation created by Harza, referred to as both HARCAN and Harza of Canada. The records mainly detail the creation of the Canadian company, as well as the development of policies and procedures. Information about HARCAN's fate is difficult to find, although records in the collection hint that it was an unsuccessful venture.

Tidal Power Consultants

Tidal Power Consultants Limited was a corporation created to carry out studies concerning the Bay of Fundy Tidal Power Project for the Atlantic Tidal Power Engineering and Management Committee as necessary. Four sponsoring firms all have abundant experience in the utilization of electrical power and water resources: Montreal Engineering Company Limited, The Shawnigan Engineering Company Limited, Harza of Canada Limited, and Balfour Beatty Power Consultants Canada Limited. Dr. E. L. Wilson from Sheffield University is a special consultant to the group, since he has done extensive studies on tidal power projects in Britain.

The series contains notes, correspondence, and clippings concerning Tidal Power Consultants (TPC). There are some administrative records of the organization itself, but the majority concern records about various projects that TPC were involved in or were researching.

Correspondence of Adams and Knickle Limited

Correspondence series consists of Adams & Knickle's general business correspondence and business correspondence concerning its fishing, shipping and vessel operations. The information contained in this series relates to fishing and shipping transactions; relations with both local and foreign agents; shipping events and voyages throughout the Atlantic Ocean; maintenance and refitting of vessels; insurance policies; and legal vessel matters. The Vessel Operations series also contain captain's correspondence and shipping agents' correspondence concerning specific transactions with vessels and events relating to Adams & Knickle vessels.

Financial records of Adams and Knickle Limited

Financial series consists of accounting records, fishing trip financial statements and company financial statements including Clement Fisheries. Types of documents include ledgers, cash books, daybooks, financial statements, stock certificates and accounting papers. The information contained in this series relate to the financial history of Adams & Knickle between 1897 and 1962 and includes transactions with Atlantic seaboard merchants and shipping agents, vessels, insurance companies, port officials, crews, captains, fishermen, vessel accounts, official duties and taxes on materials shipped, revenue, shares and dividends, and other related financial

Dalhousie Alumnae Association

Series contains correspondence regarding administration of the association, subscriptions, information requests and updates, and photograph acquisition requests. Records include minutes of the Executive Council and minutes of semi-annual and annual general meetings.

There stands Dalhousie

Series contains several 16 mm film reels containing a film entitled "There Stands Dalhousie," which premiered at an Alumni Association event in 1976. The film contains video of various Dalhousie buildings and individuals, including David Brown, President Henry Hicks, Wilf Creighton, Miss. Metherall, Murray Rankin, Professor Willis, and C.L. Bennet.
