Photograph of the Aegean Island

This is a photograph of the ship the Agean Island. The reverse of the photograph has a small French language newspaper clipping which reads, "Aux portes de la metropole, un lourd cargo rempli de sucre s'était échoué le 21 octobre. Des centaines de curieux ont observé le renflouement exécuté par la McAllister Towing."

Photograph of the Algonquin

This file contains two photographs of the Algonquin destroyer. One of the photographs shows the Algonquin firing the guns on deck, there is a lone hooded gunman in the photograph. The second photograph is of the whole ship off the coast. With the photographs are two summaries about the ship one in French language the second in English. The summaries do not have the same information.

Photograph of the America

This file contains 3 photographs of the America passenger ship. The first photograph shows the America in the Atlantic and has a description in French language on the reverse that reads "Le paquebot "America" dans une tempête sur l'atlantique - mars 1949". The second photograph is of the entire ship at sea. The third photograph is the America being lead out by tugboats from New York City into the Hudson River to begin voyage across the Atlantic, carrying 260 Athletes and 44 coaches and managers of the US Olympic Teams. Also included with the photographs is photo credit sheet issued by the Associated Press with the information about the third photograph.

Photograph of the Aquitania and Mauretania

This is photograph taken in Halifax Harbour on March 6 (n.y) shows the 45, 000 ton Aquitania on the left and the 33,000 ton Maurentania on the right. They were docked in the Halifax Harbour for several days as they unloaded some 4,500 war brides and thier children; the ships' return voyages will be back to the British Isles with German Prisoners of War. Along with the photograph is a photocopy of a clipping about the ships and thier purpose in the harbour at the time of the photograph.

Photograph of the Assiniboine (HMCS)

This file contains three photographs of the Assiniboine destroyer. The first photogrpah is of two Navel officers on deck of the Assiniboine (not named). The second photograph shows the naval crew at attention on deck (not named). The third photograph shows at least 5 crew memebers on deck of Assiniboine. Also included in the file with the photograph are 5 French language sheets with information pertaining to the war time activities of the ship.

Photograph of the Bangor

This file contains a single photograph of the Bangor ship at sea. The reverse of the photograph has a French language newspaper clipping glued there which reads, "En haut, à gauche, dargueur de mines océaniques du type "Bangor", autre catégorie de navires de guerre canadiens qui excortent les convois. Les "Bangors", cependant, sont surtout utilisés pour la protection des navires marchands prés de la côte de l'Atlantique."

Photograph of the Buckleigh

This file contains a photograph of the British freighter Buckleigh on the sands of Long Island and is dated on the reverse for October 3 1923. On the reverse written in French language is, "Le cargo anglais "Buckleigh" échoué a Long Island, 3-10-1923". Also included in the folder is an English language note about the photogrpah.

Photograph of the Cairndhu

This is a photograph of the Cairndhu in port. The photo has been outlined with blakc ink in places. On the reverse is a French language newspaper clipping featuring a copy of this photograph with information about its collision with the "Spray". It reads, "Le "Cairndhu", de la ligne Cairn-Thomson, qul dans la nuit de vendredi à samedi, est venu en collision avec le remorqueur "Spray" de ka compagnie Sincenne-McNaughton, coulant ce dernier à pic et entrainant la mort d'une femme et de cinq hommes. L'accident, comme l'a annoncé exclusivement la "presse", samedi, s'est produit près de Lanooraie." The photograph is dated 17 Juin 1922 on the reverse below the newspaper clipping.

Photograph of the Canada (SS)

This file contains a photograph is the SS Canada while it was sinking. Also included with the photograph was a fading photocopy of a write up about the photo which read, "Wide World Photo: Please Watch Credit: 921668. Sank After Explosion. North Sea-- The partly submerged S.S. Canada shown after she sank while five tugs were attempting to beach her. The Canada was damaged by an explosion recently. Believed to have been caused by a mine. All aboard the 11,108 ton liner escaped in lifeboats. _____ by British censor. -11/24/39 (s)"

Photograph of the Canadian Aviator

This file contains a photograph of the Canadian Aviator in port. On the reverse is a hand written French language note. The note reads, "Oceanique à Montréal - Le "Canadian Aviator", de la marine marchande du governement canadien qui est arrivé de Glascow avec une cargaison hier matin a 'll heures 20 est qui a amarré pres de l'entre pôt No. 12. Comme c'est le premier océanique entre dans le port, le capitaine recevra une canne a pommeau d'or de la commission du port."

Photograph of the C.D. Howe

This file contians a photogrpah of the C.D. Howe in port. Along with the photograph is an English language write up about the ship. It reads, "Artic Patrol Ship -- Now successfully launched from shipyards at Lauzon, Que., the modern ship shown above will replace the Transport Departmnet's ill-fated Nascopie which foundered during the Artic trip two years ago. The new 276-foot ship, christened C.D.Howe, will set out on its first Arctic patrol next year." The sheet is dated 8/9/49.
