History
Dalhousie's Law, Justice and Society Program is an interdisciplinary program established in 2018 and offering courses on a wide range of topics, including the introduction to law and legal thinking, the history of crime and punishment, state violence, human rights, political theories and philosophies of law, youth crime and corrections, restorative justice and conflict resolution, and the legal regulation of sex and gender.

The Law, Justice and Society Program offers a course of study leading to the usual range of BA degree options. It also provides students practicum opportunities in community organizations and services engaged in the development and reform of law and public policy.
Mandates/sources of authority
The basic statute relating to Dalhousie University is Chapter 24 of the Acts of 1863. This statute replaced earlier statutes, and the 1863 statute itself has been amended and supplemented several times over the years. The provisions of these various statutes provide for the establishment and regulation of the university, the membership of the Board of Governors and its rights and powers, the authority of senate for the internal regulation of the university (subject to the approval of the board), and various other matters.
Internal structures/genealogy
The Law, Justice and Society Program is within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and its faculty is made up of cross-appointed professors from the departments of History, Philosophy, Political Science and Sociology & Social Anthropology. The program is administered by a faculty coordinator supported by an administrative assistant. In 2021 other teaching faculty are drawn from Classics, the Environmental Science Program, Humanities, the University of King's College, the Faculty of Law and the School of Public Administration.
