Andy Dowden is a media and sound artist based in the Halifax area. Dowden has taught studio sound courses in the Media Art Department at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD) University since 1986. He has been involved with the Centre for Art Tapes and the Audio for Artists festival.

David Askevold (30 March 1940 – 23 January 2008) was an internationally known experimental Canadian artist, whose practices included media, painting and video. Askevold came to Nova Scotia in the 1970s to develop and teach the “Projects Class” at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, which involved numerous conceptual artists. Askevold contributed to the local Halifax art community, as is seen in the tapes associated with the Centre for Art Tapes.

Doug Porter is a Halifax based artist and has been working with media and video mediums since the 1980s. Porter has exhibited artworks internationally. Porter is an instructor at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax.

Edward Slopek is a media and fine arts artist. Slopek is currently a professor at Ryerson University, where he is the Program Director for the New Media Option in the School of Image Arts. Slopek has a bachelor’s degree from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, a MA from the University of Leicester and a PhD from McGill University. Slopek has exhibited artwork nationally and internally since the 1970s. His work is also a part of permanent collections, including Canada’s National Gallery.

Eric Cameron was born in 1935 in Leicester England and currently works as a Professor of Art at the University of Calgary. Cameron received his BA in painting from King’s College, Durham University in Newcastle and his Diploma in Art History from the Courtauld Institute at the University of London. Cameron is known for his “Think Paintings” that he begun in 1979 as a teacher at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. His “Thick Paintings” are objects that he covered in multiple layers of gesso. Cameron received the 2004 Governor General’s Award for Visual Art.

Kathy Tanney was a video artist who was associated with the Centre for Art Tapes in Halifax in the 1980s.

Dan Lander was born in 1953 in Oshawa, Ontario and educated at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. During his education, Lander focused in performance, video and sound. Lander became associated with the Centre for Art Tapes in 1984 because of his involvement with a video recording entitled “2 videos by Halifax independent producers” which became a part of their tape collection.

Liz MacDougall has worked in the media arts since 1984 after completing a degree in Fine Arts at NSCAD with studies at UCSD, San Diego. Concerned about the social distribution of power, she creates her work through playful applications of new technologies. She is the director of several videos, both art and documentary, including “DEBERT BUNKER: by invitation only,” "Time to Heal" and "the Birth of Sybling," for which she won national awards. Liz has been both an employee and a member of several artist-run film and video spaces including Cineworks Film Co-op - Vancouver, the Centre for Art Tapes - Halifax, and Studio XX - Montreal. In 1996 she founded the Incomplete Dislocations Collective, a group of Halifax artists who create and exhibit new media works. She has curated new media exhibitions for the Incomplete Dislocations Collective, Edge Intermedia, the IMAA Atlantic, and the Centre for Art Tapes. Liz has also taught interactive media at NSCAD and works in Halifax as a video editor and digital media creator.
