Biographical history

Dr. Hawkins was born in 1862 and graduated with an M.D. degree from McGill University in 1885. He settled in Halifax and was active in community organizations aimed at helping less fortunate members of society. He purchased Adsum House in 1912 and opened his house to aid victims of the Halifax Explosion in 1917.

File contains ten student registration and matriculation tickets presented to Arthur Charles Hawkins, pertaining to his enrollment and attendance in the 1881-1882 session at the Halifax Medical College, Dalhousie College and University, and Provincial and City Hospital. The tickets relate to the following courses: Physiology (instructor: John Somers), Clinical Surgery (instructors: Edward Farrell and John F. Black), Practical Anatomy (instructors: D.A. Campbell and A.W.H. Lindsay; with notes on dissection of extremities to verso), Chemistry (instructor: George Lawson), Anatomy (instructor: George Sinclair), Materia Medica (instructor: John F. Black), and Botany (instructor: Benjamin G. Page), as well as other tickets related to his medical education.
