David Gillies on human rights and World Bank conditional lending

File is an audio reel containing a lecture by David Gillies on human rights and the World Bank's conditional lending. Gillies, the policy coordinator for the Centre for Human Rights and Democratic Development in Montreal, spoke on April 2, 1993 at the Dalhousie Law School. The recording is in two parts: the first part (20 min., 44 sec.) contains Gillies' lecture; and the second part (6 min., 10 sec.) contains his responses to questions. The recording aired April 2, 1993 on The Evening Affair, CKDU's evening public affairs program, and was rebroadcast November 2, 1993, also on The Evening Affair.

File contains three books: a personal expenses ledger, including insurance payments and income cheques for Joyce Barkhouse (1948-1952); an inventory of household furniture and personal effects (January 23, 1959); and a wedding record with notes about her wedding to Milton Joseph Barkhouse (September 16, 1942). The wedding record also includes invitations and cards in the back.

File consists of records related to presenting the exhibition 'Fritz Brandtner 1896-1969: A Retrospective Exhibition', sponsored by Sir George Williams University, Montreal. The exhibition was presented at Dalhousie Art Gallery in February 1972, through circulation in the Atlantic Provinces Art Circuit (APAC).

Records consist of a condition report and handwritten condition notes, an essay on Brandtner's work, an itinerary, and correspondence between Dalhousie Art Gallery and other APAC member galleries.

File is an audio reel containing an interview on the Youth Nuclear Disarmament Tour. The tour, consisting of four students from Montreal, was in Halifax from October 5, 1986 until October 12, 1986, at which time they were interviewed by Ken Burke. The interview was recorded October 6, 1986 and aired October 7, 1986 on Title Waves, a CKDU radio program. It was rebroadcast October 13, 1986 on Title Waves.

File is an audio reel containing an interview with Catherine Phoenix of the Eye Level Gallery and Ann Verral of Centre for Arts Tapes on Sigmund Freud, art, and rethinking subjectivity. Phoenix and Verral spoke with CKDU's Brenda Barnes about their joint-exhibit "The Art Against Violence Against Women" which opened at the Eye Level Gallery on December 6, 1990 to mark the first anniversary of the deaths of 14 women murdered in Montreal at the l'Ecole Polytechnique. The exhibit contained work from 40 women in Nova Scotia. The interview aired November 23, 1990 and was rebroadcast November 23, 1990 on Title Waves; December 4, 1990 on The Evening Affair; December 6, 1990 on Odd Girl Out; and March 25, 1993.

File is an audio reel containing an interview with Max Faille, of the Montreal-based group Students Against Global Extermination (SAGE). Faille spoke with CKDU's Kathyrn Morse while at Dalhousie University to attend the Educating for Peace conference. The interview aired May 8, 1989 and was rebroadcast May 11, 1989 on Title Waves and The Evening Affair, and August 3, 1989.

Interview with Nicholas Regush on Condition Critical

File is an audio reel containing an interview with Nicholas Regush, a Montreal journalist specializing in covering medical issues and a medical analyst with CBC Radio, on his book Canada's Health Care System: Condition Critical. During a visit to Halifax the previous fall, he discussed his belief that immediate action was needed to prevent Canada's health care system from falling into ruin with CKDU's Donna Mayer. The episode was recorded in September 1987, and was broadcast on March 7, and July 5, 1988 on Title Waves, a CKDU program.

File is an audio reel containing a lecture by Ellen Gabriel, a Mohawk spokeswoman, on the history of the Iroquois Confederacy, the effects of the Indian Act, the role of women as defenders of encroachment to the Mohawk communities, and the continuing Sûreté du Québec (SQ) and Army harassment following the Oka Crisis of 1990. Gabriel is from Kahnesetake and is an exhibiting artist in Montreal. She spoke in Halifax on January 14, 1992 as part of the Mount Saint Vincent University Instititute for the Study of Women lecture series.
