Kenneth Alexander MacKenzie was born in Pictou in 1880, received his early education in Pictou and Springhill, and graduated from Dalhousie Medical School in 1903. After practicing briefly in Cape Breton, he moved to Halifax and later pursued post-graduate studies in internal medicine in England. During the First World War, he left his studies and served with the No. 7 Dalhousie Unit, returning to complete his studies before moving to Halifax after the war. In 1926, Dr. MacKenzie was appointed Professor of Medicine at Dalhousie, a post he held until 1945. He was an active member in several professional associations, including past-president of the Medical Society of Nova Scotia from 1932-1933. Dalhousie University conferred the Honorary degree of Doctor of Laws upon him in 1950. Dr. MacKenzie passed away on May 12, 1958.
