Fonds contains materials collected by Al Stewart as part of his involvement in the Maritime leather community, his LGBT advocacy work at Saint John's United Church in Halifax, and his involvement in the broader LGBT community in Nova Scotia. Leather community records document the activities of the TightRope leather brotherhood, Mr. Atlantic Canada Leather [MACLeather] contests, and other leather groups across Canada and the United States. Materials include administrative records, photographs, promotional materials, correspondence, newsletters, and catalogues. United Church materials primarily relate to Stewart's efforts to attain Affirmed status for St. John's United Church, and include reference materials, correspondence, and newsletters. Fonds also contains objects and ephemera related to the leather community, Affirm, and Stewart's membership in the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union [NSGEU], as well as personal photographs, correspondence, and LGBT publications.

Event programs, flyers, and promotional materials

Series contains duplicate programs, flyers, and other promotional materials from fonds in the Nova Scotia LGBT Seniors Archive. Materials in series include flyers and event cards for the Halifax Fetish Ball, flyers for a speaking engagement and meet and greet with South African political activist Simon Nkoli, flyers and programs for the Awake The World HIV/AIDS awareness event, and programs and program inserts from Mr. Atlantic Canada [M.A.C.] Leather contests.

Leather community event calendars and schedules

File contains leather community events calendars and schedules covering events in both Nova Scotia, across Canada and the United States, and some European events. Materials include one schedule for the Mr. Atlantic Canada (M.A.C.) Leather 2003 contest weekend, held October 4-6, 2002; one calendar produced by the TightRope brotherhood featuring both TightRope gatherings and other leather community events across Canada, the United States, and Europe from 1994-1995; and two copies of the Hot Boots calendar for 2002-2003.

Leather community materials

Series contains materials collected by Al Stewart as part of his involvement with the Halifax-based TightRope leather brotherhood, which was established in the early 1990s, incorporated in 1997, and disbanded in 2007. Series also contains materials related to the Mr. Atlantic Canada Leather [MACLeather] organization, which operated between 1999-2010, and the leather community more broadly. Materials include TightRope administrative and financial records, correspondence, and promotional materials; event cards, flyers, posters, programs, and certificates of participation for TightRope events, MACLeather contests, and leather events across Canada and the United States; photographs of TightRope meet-ups, MACLeather contests, and other leather community events; web print-outs; issues of the Phalia newsletter published by Spearhead leather and denim club in Toronto; erotic gear catalogues; and one copy of the 2002 Men of Pumpjack calendar.

Leather event cards, brochures, and programs

File contains event cards and brochures for leather contests and meet-ups in Chicago, Illinois and Cincinnatti, Ohio; and one program for the 2002 International Mr. Leather contest, held in Chicago from May 23-27, 2002.

Leather group policy and bylaw research materials

File contains bylaws and policies from various leather groups and organizations in Ontario and Nova Scotia. Documents include Mister Leatherman Toronto Policies and Judges Handbook, National Leather Contest Rules and Requirements and the Official Contestant Packet, Logistic notes, Bylaws from the AIDS Coalition of Nova Scotia, and the Constitution and Bylaws of the Ottawa Knights.

Collection contains duplicate materials from fonds in the Nova Scotia LGBT Seniors Archive. Materials in collection include posters; programs, flyers, and promotional materials; pamphlets and outreach materials; and wearable ephemera including buttons and pins, badges, medals, clothing, and other regalia. Materials in series relate to Halifax Pride and other pride celebrations, political demonstrations, Lesbian and Gay Rights Nova Scotia [LGRNS] operations and events, Halifax Fetish Ball and Mr. Atlantic Canada [M.A.C.] Leather events, Gay and Lesbian Association [GALA] meetings and operations, events held at Rumours bar, LGBT films, and other LGBT causes and events.

M.A.C. Leather t-shirt and vest

File contains one leather vest adorned with pins from various LGBT and leather community events. The leather patches on the back, which read "Mr Atlantic Leather 99", were made from the sash awarded to Don Murchy for winning the M.A.C. Leather competition in 1999. File also contains one t-shirt from the 2004 M.A.C. Leather competition.

Mr. Atlantic Canada Leather [MACLeather] medals

File contains seven medals from the 2008 and 2009 Mr. Atlantic Canada Leather [MACLeather] awards. 2008 medals awarded to Bill Mitchell, Ken Burrough, Kate Huey, Terry Lewin, Dita Parlow and Ryan Auld as well as one medal inscribed "MACLeather 2007 Rob Meyers". 2009 medals awarded to Maisie Walker, Rick Johnston, and Rick Arsenault. File also contains nine judges pins. Titles include Head Judge, Judges Boy, Tally Mistress, Tally Mister, and Judges 1 through 5.

File contains programs for Mr. Atlantic Canada Leather [MACLeather] contests held In Halifax and Moncton between 2001-2005. File includes one copy of the 2001 contest program, three copies of the 2002 contest program, two copies of the 2003 contest program, three copies of the 2004 contest program, and three copies of the 2005 contest program.

Mr. Atlantic Leatherman 2001 contest poster

File contains one poster for the Mr. Atlantic Leatherman 2001 contest, held in Halifax from November 24-26, 2000. Mr. Atlantic Leatherman was later renamed to the Mr. Atlantic Canada (M.A.C.) Leather contest.
