The fonds consist of research notes generated during Bevan's study of Dryden's literature; academic and departmental correspondence and documentation created while Bevan was head of the English department and afterwards; documents and correspondence relating to operations at the Dalhousie Review from 1972-1980; fiction and other writings; material pertaining to courses he taught from 1949 to 1976; and various undated papers written by his students.

John Daniel Logan fonds

Fonds contains music manuscripts and published scores, photographs, and autograph letters written by well-known composers such as Jacques Offenbach, Giuseppe Verdi, and John Philip Sousa. Through his work as a music critic and journalist in Toronto and Halifax, Logan communicated with many prominent Canadian musicians in the early twentieth century. Many of the scores, photographs, and autographs included in this collection are a result of his contributions to music criticism. The music and theatre programs are frequently annotated with comments for reviews, and most of his correspondence with musicians and actors relates to his work as a music and theatre critic. Some of the scores were given to Logan as gifts from performers while others were sent to him for review or publication in newspapers. There are several manuscripts of songs by Edith Jessie Archibald, a prominent social activist and suffragist in Halifax. Letters sent to Logan also concern his poetic contributions, and there is a manuscript draft of one of his books, Preludes: Sonnets and other Verses (1906).

File contains a pamphlet advertising a series of records containing fairy tales in French recorded by the Educational Department of the Columbia Graphophone Company by Marguerite Clement, professor of French language and literature at the Lyceum of Marseilles and the University of Paris.

Reading notes on seminar on Romanticism

File contains a plain green notebook with red plastic spiral binding, used by Kenneth Leslie -- likely in the early 1940s (after 1936) -- for the purposes of compiling reading notes related to a seminar on Romanticism and the Romantic movement in literature. File largely contains Kenneth Leslie's densely-handwritten reading notes relating to his close study of Irving Babbitt's book 'Rousseau and romanticism'. File also contains a short bibliography of works on Romanticism (the latest entry dated 1936, with a reminder to purchase "the Modern Library giant -- Hawthorne" which was first published in 1937.

Working Theatre : Time Out

File contains documents regarding the creation of the Rock Meets Bone episode titled "Time Out" by the Working Theatre, which aired on September 22, 1989. The episode is a play created by five participants of an adult literacy program at the Mulgrave Road Co-op in collaboration with the Guysborough County people. Participants include Hughie Ashe, Elizabeth Byard, Sue Clyke, Ernie Daniel, and Ruth Scott. Materials include an introduction script, handwritten production notes, and a booklet, press release, and information on the adult literacy program.
