A journal of the proceedings on board the sloop 'Dart,' privateer of St. John, New Brunswick

Item is a journal kept by Captain John Harris (c. 1775-1825) during a voyage on the sloop 'Dart,' commencing May 22, 1813. Harris also used the journal during two 1815 voyages on other vessels. He recorded occurrences on board the boat 'Prince Regent' during a trip from Annapolis towards Halifax in August 1815. He also recorded occurrences on board the schooner 'Laurence' during a trip from Annapolis towards Barbados in 1815.

The accession contains index cards originally stored in 10 small plastic boxes and 1 long cardboard box. The cards were created by Trevor Bebb and contain entries from various shipping registers. The cards describe vessels, captains, and sailors. The accession also contains two oversized ledgers from the nineteenth century and several manuscript sheets of poetry. One plastic box was empty when it entered the archives.

Item consists of two copies of a drawing of the propulsion shafting of the Bluenose II. The drawing includes a plan view of the existing shafting and a detail of the proposed modification, showing the installation of a twin disc coupling. The drawing was completed by G. T. Nelson from the Halifax Shipyards Drawing Office on September 23rd, 1965. The drawing is labelled "DRG. No. MX-625." Both copies of the drawing are stamped and dated by Halifax Shipyards. One copy has a stamp of approval from the Canada Department of Transport, which is dated October 4th, 1965.

File contains three drawings of proposed modifications for the Bluenose II. The drawings include a diagram of the existing electrical arrangement with proposed modifications; two copies of a drawing of a proposed modification to the propulsion shafting; and two copies of a proposed schematic diagram of electrical distribution. Fonds contains the business papers from Himmelman Supply Company and several other companies owned or operated by Ernest H. Himmelman and Lawrence Himmelman. These include O.K. Service Shipping Company, Himmelman Shipping Limited, Oakland Shipping Limited, LaHave Investments Limited, Nova Hereford Farms, and Himmelman Supermarket Limited. The fonds contains a variety of business papers, including meeting minutes and administrative records, ships' vessel papers, correspondence, financial statements and ledgers, legal agreements and contracts, blueprints and maps, and photographs.

Some of the personal papers of Lawrence Himmelman are also included in the fonds, including correspondence with the LaHave School, the local fire department, and other groups, financial records, and contracts and agreements.

In 1954, a fire in the Himmelman Supermarket destroyed many of the business records. Most records in the fonds are from after this date, though some vessel papers and correspondence from before the fire survived. See individual series descriptions for more detailed descriptions of the scope and content of the fonds.

Fonds consists of 18 series. Administrative, Correspondence, Financial, and Vessel Papers Series contain records for Himmelman Supply Company and subsidiary companies. Additional records for subsidiary companies are found in series for Himmelman Shipping Company, O.K. Service Shipping Limited, Oakland Shipping Limited, LaHave Shipping Limited, and LaHave Investments Limited. Each vessel from the O.K. Service Fleet also has a series.
