Nova Scotia Agricultural College development of a 'Training Program in Sustainable Agriculture' at the Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander (Columbia) project records

Subseries contains records that were created and used in the partnership project with the Nova Scotia Agricultural College (NSAC) and the Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander (Columbia) in the development of a 'Training Program in Sustainable Agriculture' at UFPS for both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The program ran between 1997 and 2002. The Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander (UFPS) was asked to play a key role in “El Salto Social”, the social leap forward, in the Santander region of Colombia. New curricula was to be introduced at UFPS, faculty being upgraded and new extension and outreach programs being established with the assistance of NSAC through this project. Other project partners were the Universidad de la Republica Uruguay (URU) of Uruguay and Saint Mary’s University (SMU). This was an Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) University Program for Cooperation in Development (UPCD) Tier 2 project led by NSAC. NSAC Personnel involved were Norman Goodyear, Bonnie Waddell, Sam Asiedu, and Leanne French.

Kenneth Cox (1946 - 1964)

Item is a photograph of Kenneth Cox. In 1937, Dr. Cox moved to Truro, Nova Scotia, where he accepted an appointment as Provincial Agronomist and Professor of Agronomy at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. These two roles were continued until 1946. In 1941 he was also appointed Vice-Principal of the College and Farm Director. He held the position of Nova Scotia Agricultural College principal from 1946 - 1964.

Nova Scotia Agricultural College graduating class of 2012 time capsule

File is a time capsule created by the Class of 2012, the last class of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College before its merger with Dalhousie University. The capsule contains approximately 50 articles deposited by graduating students, including pictures, a bottle of wine made at the college, frosh beanies, written memories, a synopsis of NSAC and banquet programs. The project was initiated by Matthew Lawless, co-chair of the graduating class, Jonathan Waugh and Jessica Dowe, and the capsule was built by NSAC engineering technician Chris Nelson.

Fonds consists of reports and studies on Nova Scotia farming and marketing between 1924-1990. Series are comprised of papers, reports, correspondence, photographs, newspaper articles, and signs created and collected by Gordon Kinsman during his Nova Scotia berry research. Materials focus on blueberries, strawberries, the strawberry industry, berry box making, berry shipping, general agriculture, the history of agriculture, dairy, creameries, direct marketing of blueberries and apples, exhibitions in Nova Scotia, the Maritimes, and Canada between 1924-1993.

The view is of the rear opposite corner view of the dormer roof building. In the rear there is also a lean-to porch and small side entry. Two 1970’s era cars parked on each side view. Clearly a winter scene.
