Nova Scotia Agricultural College principals, student life, and student play

File contains photographs of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College campus, principals, buildings, student sports teams, and a student play.
-- 49 photographs : colour ; 13 x 18 cm - taken of students presenting a play from 1993, title unknown, sign on the back of the stage says “ Congratulations class of 1993”. -- 1 black photo album which includes 46 photographs : b & w ; 12 ½ x 18 cm. 7 pages of negatives. Time period unknown, some pictures are labeled. Photographs include NSAC hockey team, Aggies hockey team, horses, faculty, basketball team, classrooms, residence construction, farms and barns, convocation, campus buildings, NSAC principals. Photographs have been removed from the sheets and placed in acid free plastic sleeves. Several prints were disposed of as they were duplicates or copies of older NSAC postcards. -- Sony U-matic videocassette (3/4), “Pesticide safety” by Ian Blenkhorn, Marion MacRae, Cathy Deveau, Mark Tracey. – cannot view the video; place in AV boxes, recommended for disposal unless it is an NSAC produced film.

MacRae Library gets barcodes

File contains 2 photographs of library assistant Janelle Brenton cataloging and applying new barcodes to the books of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College's MacRae Library’s collection for the new automated catalog. The photographs were taken by Sheila Ferguson, she was a photographer/media person who worked for the Dept. of Agriculture --- she was in the 4H building at one time, when it was in the old house next to the parking lot.

MacRae Library "An apple a day" exhibit

File contains a collection of photographs used in the "An apple a day" exhibit held at the MacRae Library in 1998. Dr. Alex Georgallas was the acting archivist and curated the exhibit of prints of the Fred Sears glass slides. Most of the photographs center around apples and orchard practices and buildings of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. Notes on some of the sleeves of the negatives suggest that they date from the period 1906/7. It seems likely that they are connected with courses taught by Fred C. Sears at the NSAC during this period.

Photos include posed (as for calendar publication), class photos; event photos such as building dedications, graduation parades, students at play, at study, at work. Most photos are between the decades of the 1950's to the early 1980's.

Principal's residence

File contains the original photograph and a reproduction of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College's Principal's Residence circa 1910. It was built in 1908 and was removed in 1978 as the site was selected for the new dining hall.

Moving a house on campus

File consists of 8 photographs of a house being moved off of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College campus. It looks to have been on the MacRae Library side of College Road. The photos were taken by Stuart Smith, physics professor at NSAC.

Canadian farm problems radio broadcast guide notes collection

Collection consists of guide notes to a radio broadcast in the 1940's on Canadian farm problems. This was broadcast sponsored by The Canadian Association for Adult Education from Toronto. The guide notes were prepared by J.E. Lattimer, R. Summerby, Emile A. Lods, L.C. Raymond, J.N. Bird, E.W. Crampton, L.H. Hamilton and A.R. Ness.

Collection consists of material related to farm and rural life. Mainly historical accounts of farm life and agricultural management in Nova Scotia. Also includes farm diaries [Zabud MacKay (1832-1918) - Malagash, NS], memoirs of John Murphy (Cream pick-up driver), accounts of rural life, etc. Also included is a report on rural policy reform.

Nova Scotia Agricultural College campus panoramic 1921

File contains a panoramic photographic print of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College from 1921. Printed on the back : "Mrs. Mathew [sic Matthew] Frizzell". Removed a piece of a receipt taped to the back of the photograph during processing; it may have been used to indicate cropping when an enlargement was made to hang behind the circulation desk of the MacRae Library. The receipt and description card are attached to the accession form in the case file. The panoramic shot still hangs behind the circulation desk at the time of accessioning.

Ayrshire cow "Annie Laurie"

File contains a black and white photograph of the famous Ayrshire Cow "Annie Laurie", twice winner of first prize in milk test Guelph Ontario, owned by Agricultural College, Truro, Nova Scotia (45 x 52 cm). No date.
