Dalhousie University yearbooks

Series comprises Dalhousie University yearbooks, including Pharos; the College of Pharmacy's Mortar & Pestle and Modo Opimum; Faculty of Law yearbooks; the School of Physiotherapy's Amicus Curia; Dalhousie's former Department of Education yearbooks; and the yearbooks of Nova Scotia Technical College and the Technical University of Nova Scotia.

Entomology

This series consists of 42 publications, which is comprised of 40 books and 2 miscellaneous textual records relating to entomology. These were published by the Nova Scotia Institute of Science, the Canadian Department of Agriculture, and the United States Department of Agriculture, published between 1915-1983.

Business papers re. Henry House

Series includes correspondence and papers relating to the business side of Henry House, including architectural plans for proposed additions/alterations to the building.

Reference cards

Series contains a collection of Brian Hall's reference cards used for citations. Materials include two sharp card sorters used for cohesively organising and finding individual groups of cards. There are approximately 20 000 reference cards. The cards deal with a variety of scientific topics, including but not limited to: the effects of mechanical stress on cartilage in vitro; a clinical overview of neurofibramitosis; and the growth of the facial skeleton in the hominoidea. The card sorters are located in Box 6.

Telling it Like it is

Series contains audio reels from the CKDU radio 88.1 program Telling it Like it is. This program was organized by the anti-poverty group, Humans Against Resource Deprivation (HARD), based in metro Halifax.

Special events and celebrations

This series contains photos, documents, flyers, and scripts regarding special events and celebrations at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. These includes exhibitions, dramas, open houses, commencements, etc. between 1971-2005.

Earth Action

Series contains audio reels from the CKDU radio 88.1 program Earth Action. This program is a weekly environmental radio show by the Ecology Action Centre, established in 1971 Nova Scotia after a course held at Dalhousie University called Living Ecology. The program began in 1987, and was a 15 minute show hosted every Monday at 5:30PM consisting of interviews, a feature called “Lets Clean It Up,” (which focused generally around recycling with the immediate goal of increasing individual awareness about dangerous household hazardous waste), and environmental news. The original team consisted of Robert Pross, engineer; Leslie Shaw, Wayne Hall, Cristina Pekarik, Liz and Debrah Westerburg.

Living After Diagnosis

Series contains audio reels from the CKDU radio 88.1 program Living After Diagnosis. This program is a multi-part series on living with AIDS, which aired once a month on CKDU radio.

The Masked Genre

Series contains audio reels from the CKDU radio 88.1 program The Masked Genre. This program is a multi-part series focusing on comics, and many of the episodes include references to local Wilkie’s Wonderful World of Comics (located in Lunenburg and Halifax) at beginning.

No Time for Humour

Series contains audio reels from the CKDU radio 88.1 program No Time for Humour, a half hour long comedy show that ran from 1984 to 1987. It contained original content written and produced by the Seal Cub.

Interviews and reports on university topics

Series contains audio reels from CKDU radio with interviews and reports conducted by CKDU radio hosts on university topics, including but not limited to Dalhousie.

Backtrax

Series contains audio reels from the CKDU radio 88.1 program, Backtrax. This program features artists with a lasting influence in music, and features several multi-part series on different artists. Played Monday to Thursday at 4:00PM.

Theatre of the Ear

Series contains audio reels from the CKDU radio 88.1 program Theatre of the Ear. One of the original shows after CKDU switched to their FM channel, this weekly half-hour radio drama aired radio plays produced with theatre students, as well as shows provided by the British Broadcasting Corporation.

New World Stories

Series contains audio reels from the CKDU radio 88.1 program New World Stories. This program features author readings and interviews, and includes David McGimpsey, Mark Leger, Michael Kaufman, and Michael Ondaatje among others. It is hosted by Anne Graham.

The Word is Out

Series contains audio reels from the CKDU radio 88.1 program The Word is Out, a weekly lesbian and gay public affairs series. This show was listed in 1993 as Metro's only lesbian and gay radio show, and played on CKDU's program The Evening Affair. The Word is Out was hosted by Connie Clark, Brenda Barnes, and Dan Hart, among others, and included interviews from Donna Mayer and Nathan Elling. It was produced and created by Halifax locals, and covered news, reviews, and more.

Rocky Jones on Racism

It features Burnley (Rocky) Jones, a Halifax lawyer, human rights activist, and prisoners rights advocate who fought for the defeat of racism. Jones earned his law degree from Dalhousie University in the 1990s.
