Speeches and Essays of Frank Parker Day

Series contains a variety of speeches and essays, ordered completely chronologically, that Day gave during his career. Many of these are related to his academic career, particularly on literary subjects and war. Many were given during his time as President of Union College when he was a much sought-after speaker.

Speeches were primarily delivered at faculty meetings and convocations. File also includes Frank Parker Day's inaugural address as President of Union College and radio talks on education given as president.

Frank Parker Day photographs

Series contains photographs that span the greater portion of Day's life. Materials include photographs depicting his time in university, his time served during World War One, and his time as President of Union College. Series also contains many photographs of the Day family and their friends.

Newspaper clippings about Avis Marshall

This is a photograph of the ship the Agean Island. The reverse of the photograph has a small French language newspaper clipping which reads, "Aux portes de la metropole, un lourd cargo rempli de sucre s'était échoué le 21 octobre. Des centaines de curieux ont observé le renflouement exécuté par la McAllister Towing."

This file contains 3 photographs of the America passenger ship. The first photograph shows the America in the Atlantic and has a description in French language on the reverse that reads "Le paquebot "America" dans une tempête sur l'atlantique - mars 1949". The second photograph is of the entire ship at sea. The third photograph is the America being lead out by tugboats from New York City into the Hudson River to begin voyage across the Atlantic, carrying 260 Athletes and 44 coaches and managers of the US Olympic Teams. Also included with the photographs is photo credit sheet issued by the Associated Press with the information about the third photograph.

This file contains a photograph of the British freighter Buckleigh on the sands of Long Island and is dated on the reverse for October 3 1923. On the reverse written in French language is, "Le cargo anglais "Buckleigh" échoué a Long Island, 3-10-1923". Also included in the folder is an English language note about the photogrpah.

Photograph of the C.D. Howe

This file contians a photogrpah of the C.D. Howe in port. Along with the photograph is an English language write up about the ship. It reads, "Artic Patrol Ship -- Now successfully launched from shipyards at Lauzon, Que., the modern ship shown above will replace the Transport Departmnet's ill-fated Nascopie which foundered during the Artic trip two years ago. The new 276-foot ship, christened C.D.Howe, will set out on its first Arctic patrol next year." The sheet is dated 8/9/49.

Also included with the photograph was a fading photocopy of a write up about the photo which read, "Wide World Photo: Please Watch Credit: 921668. Sank After Explosion. North Sea-- The partly submerged S.S. Canada shown after she sank while five tugs were attempting to beach her. The Canada was damaged by an explosion recently. Believed to have been caused by a mine. All aboard the 11,108 ton liner escaped in lifeboats. _____ by British censor. -11/24/39 (s)"

Letter of support for Dr. Daniel Cobb Harvey from Archibald McKellar MacMechan to Edwin Laftus

Item is three sheets of paper. The first sheet is folded to make two additional pages. The letter is Archibald MacMechan's recommendation to Edwin Laftus, that Daniel Harvey should receive the position of lecturer in History at Dalhousie University. A P.S. note by MacMechan also recommends an article that Harvey wrote for the Rhodes Foundation.
