The collection contains oral histories given by mental health consumers that span the second half of the twentieth century to the present. Some videos are accompanied by a transcription of the interview.
The Our Voices Matter Project is an initiative of the Canadian Mental Health Association Halifax-Dartmouth Branch. The purpose of the Project is to offer older mental health consumers living in Halifax Regional Municipality the opportunity of leaving a permanent record of their lives.
The Project collects oral histories from individuals interested in sharing their personal perspective on the evolving social and mental health environments. Involvement in the project is voluntary and any participant may withdraw from the process at any time and have all records destroyed during and up to the end of the project. The project is sponsored by the Canadian Mental Health Association Halifax-Dartmouth Branch and funded by the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness and Halifax Regional Municipality.
