This file consists of a witness account of the election day in the town of Pictou, Nova Scotia in 1844 where voters were attacked and stopped from voting at the polls.
File contains records of grocers D. Logan and Company Store, including invoices (1881-1883); cancelled cheques (1918); price lists; day books (1872-1900); correspondence (1872-1876); postcards (1877); ledgers (1872-1900); bills; and newspaper clippings.
File contains orders for connections with a telephone exchange operated by the Nova Scotia Telephone Company. Orders were received between 1890 and 1894.
File contains a letter from Addie MacKay concerning a hymn that she composed with words by her sister, requesting that John Daniel Logan publish it in the Halifax Herald.
Item is the manuscript for a hymn "Rest Christian Calmly," with words by Jessie P. MacKay and music by Addie MacKay. The music is for four-part chorus (soprano, alto, tenor, and bass) and is in F Major with four verses.
File contains two programs for two performances of Handel's Messiah by Symphony Nova Scotia, conducted by Georg Tinter, with the Halifax Camerata Singers and Cantabile Singers of Truro, directed by Jeff Joudrey. The concerts took place at the DeCoste Entertainment Centre in Pictou, Nova Scotia and at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The file also contains two newspaper clippings of concert reviews.
File contains a program and newspaper clippings from a Nova Scotian concert tour by the Halifax Camerata Singers, which included performances in Truro, River Denys Mountain, Annapolis Royal, Amherst, New Glasgow, Liverpool, and Yarmouth.
File contains meeting notices for IBEW Local 1928 Units 10 (Sheet Harbour) and 11 (New Glasgow). It also includes a letter to IBEW Local 1928 from Townsend Street Area Control Operators and two letters from IBEW Local 1928 to Gerald C. Crewe and Charles Boutilier respectively of Unit 14 (Sydney).
File contains a Pride Week Proclamation for Pictou County; text of an article titled "Gays and Lesbians Marvel at Phenomenal Gains"; and clippings about Veldhoven's marriage to Norman Carter, Carter's death, and Veldhoven's activism.
Item is a reproduction of a pastel drawing of Thomas McCulloch, the first president of Dalhousie University. The drawing was produced by Munro of Pictou, Nova Scotia. The original drawing was created by Daniel Munro in 1850, after an older drawing hanging in Wellington Presbyterian Church in Glasgow, Scotland. The drawing was given to Dalhousie as a centennial gift by Isabella McCulloch in 1939.
Collection contains over 55,000 glass plate negatives, film negatives, and prints from the Waldren Studios of New Glasgow and Antigonish, Nova Scotia. The majority of these negatives are portraits, nearly all of which are identified and dated. A number of the portraits represent some of the earliest photos of Black Nova Scotians from Pictou, Antigonish and Guysborough counties. Many of the remaining photos are local scenes, a few of which were taken in New Glasgow before the fire in 1874 which devastated the town. The collection contains photographs that depict show coal mining, shipbuilding and other local industries in action. Portraits of family groups, sports teams, social clubs and school groups are also well represented.
