Balcom asked a series of questions about educational grants to Nova Scotia institutions and received information about the distribution of funding across Canada. The file contains published accounts of parliamentary proceedings in March 1955 and associated correspondence between Balcom and other persons, such as J.D., McLean, Dean of the Dalhousie Faculty of Dentistry, and Watson Kirkconnell, President of Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.

Folder consists of Alexander Ross's Grammar School diploma from the Provincial Normal School, 1864, stating that he is able to be a grammar school teacher; Province of Nova Scotia examination certificate stating that he passed the provincial exams in March 1867; and the College of Dalhousie diploma awarding Alexander Ross a Bachelor's of Arts degree.

Letter written by Kenneth Leslie regarding the threat posed by fascism and antisemitism in the United States

Item is a two-page typed letter written by Kenneth Leslie on December 17, 1942. The letter addresses the threat posed by the fascist movement and antisemitism in the United States, both at present during the war, as well as the threats posed "after the war is over", where "this Fascistic movement will let loose with its first barrage, to consist of a wave of terror against the Jew". The letter, which an accompanying index card suggests should be sent "first to Presidents of colleges and then to professors of education, philosophy, psychology, historical and sociological sciences", urges educators join the "Protestant Digest"-supported Textbook Commission to eliminate anti-Semitic statements in American textbooks as a means of warding off fascism and antisemitism "not in the name of any church but in the name of democracy".

This fonds consists primarily of records related to the Board of Governors collected by Farquhar during his time on the board, including minutes; the report A Survey and Plan of Fund-raising for Dalhousie University; and a file of correspondence, newspaper clippings, and publications related to President Stanley Carleton’s resignation.

The fonds also includes some other miscellaneous materials collected by Farquhar related to the history of Dalhousie or the province, and associations/events with which he was involved. These records include pamphlets, song books, biographical sketches of some notable Nova Scotians, and a number of event programs and invitations.
