Subseries consists of materials originally belonging or sent to Quincy Wright, including publications, correspondence, and committee materials pertaining either to the World Citizens Association and/or the Committee to Frame a World Constitution.

Subseries consists of correspondence referring to the activities at the University of Chicago during the 1940s and 1950s concerning world federalism and/or world federalism issues in general.

UNCLoS III : publications, drafts, and speeches

Subseries consists primarily of publications about UNCLoS III as opposed to produced via UNCLoS III (i.e. papers by Elisabeth Mann Borgese and/or A. Pardo, among others) such as reports, articles, and proposals. However, this subseries also includes some official statements and speeches by delegates. The scope of this subseries is broad in that it also contains publications, drafts, and speeches that were written after the completion of UNCLoS III, and in fact may concern post-UNCLoS III activities such as the Preparatory Commission for the International Seabed Authority and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, among other things.

IWCO : correspondence

Subseries consists of correspondence predominantly with members of the IWCO concerning plenary sessions, although Borgese also wrote to people in the field to ask for their input on IWCO or to update them on the proceedings. This subseries also includes letters by Borgese requesting funding and participation from various individuals and organizations. Some files include publications that originally accompanied the correspondence.

IWCO : conference materials

Subseries consists of documents that accompanied members of the IWCO to various plenary sessions, including agendas, budgets, lists of participants, speeches, reports, and background papers.

Publications, drafts, and reports

Subseries consists of publications, drafts, reports, and project proposals produced by, or related to, an assortment of UN organizations not concerning UNCLoS III. Some documents are authored by A. Pardo while others are of unknown authorship, but were edited and annotated by Borgese.

Subseries consists of various publications, drafts, and reports produced by or created for the Center, including numerous Dialogue Discussion papers by Senior and/or Visiting Fellows. Also included are some publications (journals and other periodicals) used in some way by Borgese at the Center. Some correspondence is included in the subseries, but only in cases where it was attached in the file to the publication and related to it in some way.

Kelly, Frank K.

Subseries consists of correspondence with individuals and organizations created by Frank Kelly, a vice-president at the Center. Also included are some publications, reports, and news clippings created and/or utilized by Kelly.

Subseries consists of correspondence with individuals or organizations concerning administrative details, projects, and conferences, among other topics, received during Borgese's time as a Senior Fellow at the Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions. Also included are some papers, articles, and reports that are connected in some way to the correspondence. Numerous newspaper clippings relating to people or activities of the Center are also included.

Conference materials

Subseries consists of transcriptions of various conferences, conference agendas, lists of participants and their addresses, and other conference planning material. Also included are papers and publications that were used or presented at the conference. Some correspondence and memos relating to conference planning or activities are included.

Ashmore, Harry

Subseries consists of correspondence with individuals and organizations created by Harry Ashmore, a chairman and later president of the Center. Correspondence includes letters from Senator E. McArthy, Ted Kennedy, Tom Brokaw, and Walter Cronkite. Also included are some publications, reports, memos, etc. created and/or used by Ashmore.

Administrative records

Subseries consists of budgetary documentation for the Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions and various conferences and seminars, project outlines, minutes of meetings, memos, financial records, and annual reports on the status of the Center, among other material. Some correspondence and publications are included in the subseries where they were originally attached to administrative files.

Research materials

Subseries consists of background papers, reports, newsletters, and other documents pertaining to Borgese's broad professional and personal research interests, including oceans, climate, animal welfare, and the Gulf War.

Encyclopedia

Subseries consists of correspondence related to the publishing of the Encyclopedia Britannica Book of the Year and the Encyclopaedia Universalis. It also includes reports from the Mathematical Order concerning Encyclopedia Britannica articles.

Correspondence regarding Elisabeth Mann Borgese

Subseries consists of correspondence with various individuals and organizations, including publishing houses and marine research agencies, concerning the publication of Borgese's books and articles as well as the production of a film series based on her book The Drama of the Oceans. Subseries also contains correspondence with journalists writing about Elisabeth Mann Borgese and her family as well as correspondence concerning publications by Thomas Mann and G.A. Borgese. Some files contain publications, royalty statements, and contracts that accompanied the correspondence.

Ephemera

Subseries consists of drawings, a passport, programmes, certificates, a Dalhousie University Honorary Degree, Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of Germany, and other materials.

Also included are press releases and other promotional materials.

Attached to the correspondence are some draft proposals and papers intended for presentation at conferences.

Subseries consists of progress reports, meeting reports, minutes of working groups and committees of Pacem in Maribus, meeting agendas, meeting minutes, budget statements, project proposals, and lists of members, associations, and committees associated with Pacem in Maribus activities.

Subseries consists of IOI publications, drafts, and reports aside from those related to the Ocean Yearbook or the Training Programme, including occasional and background papers, newsletters, speeches, brochures, and other promotional material. Borgese authored or co-authored many of these publications.
