Inaugural addresses delivered by James DeMille during convocation at Dalhousie College

File contains two inaugural addresses delivered by James DeMille at convocation ceremonies of Dalhousie College. The first inaugural address was delivered on November 4, 1873 and printed in Dalhousie Gazette, Vol. 6, No. 1 (November 15, 1873). The second inaugural address was delivered at convocation in 1878 and printed in Dalhousie Gazette, New series Vol. 4, No. 1 and No. 2 (November 23, 1878 and December 7, 1878).

File contains two copies of the speech, one of which is in abbreviated form. Handwritten note indicates that speech was given as an address to the Annual Conference of Canadian Passenger Association and Canadian Travelers Associations. Speech is typed and has annotations.

File contains a copy of Budge Wilson's acceptance speech printed in School Libraries in Canada (Summer 1991) for her Canadian Library Association (CLA) Young Adult Canadian Book Award for "The Leaving," and a copy of her letter to the magazine regarding the omission of the title of her book from the published speech. The speech was originally delivered at the CLA/CACL Book Awards Banquet in Montreal, Quebec. The file also includes an annotated, typescript copy of the speech, possibly used at the awards presentation.
