Atlantic Canada co-operatives collection

The Atlantic Canada co-operatives collection consists of approximately 15 meters of published and unpublished materials. This includes books, serials, brochures, loose papers, photographs and slides, maps, audio and visual material, and artifacts.

The fonds contains information about many individual co-operatives and credit unions, as well as documents from larger region-wide co-operative organizations. There is also a large section of general co-operative literature about co-operation as a social movement, in Canada and around the world.

The age of the materials ranges from the early 1900s up to 2002. The majority spans from the 1950s to the 1990s.

Evans Estabrooks fonds

This fonds consists of photographs, campus publications, patches and a class ring from Mr. Estabrooks’ education and graduation from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College (1960-1962). The fonds also contains correspondence, photographs, and “Memories : then and now : autobiographies of the class of 1962 : a look at the past 42 years : Nova Scotia Agricultural College” from Alumni Relations for the 40th and 50th year class reunions.

1940 Hockey team

This item is a photograph of the 1940 Nova Scotia Agricultural College hockey team, named and enclosed in photographer’s frame. It belonged to Francis W. Lawrence, NSAC Class of 1940 (See also A2018-072 (UA-43)). Names on frame: Front: Newson (trainer), Murphy, LeMaine, Marshal, Spurr (Captain), Smith, King (Coach) / Middle: Gilliat, Oulton, Langille, Grant / Front: Hall, Fulton, Woolaver [sic Wallover], Robinson.

Also included in the file is a hardcover BT Barn Book, no. 39 [1922], with BT Price List St. John Edition no.103 (effective September 25th, 1922).

Nova Scotia Agricultural College campus events and activities (20th century)

File contains photographs of events and activities at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College with people present in frame. People include students, faculty, and dignitaries. Photos include posed (as for calendar publication), class photos; event photos such as building dedications, graduation parades, students at play, at study, at work. Most photos are between the decades of the 1950's to the early 1980's.

Hockey championships team of the Truro and District Hockey League

This subseries contains a black and white mounted photograph of the 1945-1946 Nova Scotia Agricultural College hockey team and a photocopy of a newspaper article including the same photo and a caption with regard to a reunion of the Truro and District Hockey League that took place May 9, 1992 [?] at Keddy's. The caption underneath the photo states: "The Nova Scotia Agricultural College champions of the Truro and District Hockey League in the 1945-46 season, will be among teams represented when the league holds its reunion May 9 at Keddy's. This photo, courtesy of Don MacNeil of Truro shows players; front row, left, Bob Doyle, Dave Gillespie, Vernon Reid, Gus Kinsman, Angie Gillis, Moe Kennie ; bck row, left, Hermie Fielding, Dan McFadden, Bud Elderkin, Vic Holms, Hugh MacLeod, Ray Kennedy, Jack Gammon, Wayne Parker (manager). Nova Scotia Agricultural College principals, student life, and student play

File contains photographs of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College campus, principals, buildings, student sports teams, and a student play.
-- 49 photographs : colour ; 13 x 18 cm - taken of students presenting a play from 1993, title unknown, sign on the back of the stage says “ Congratulations class of 1993”. -- 1 black photo album which includes 46 photographs : b & w ; 12 ½ x 18 cm. 7 pages of negatives. Time period unknown, some pictures are labeled. Photographs include NSAC hockey team, Aggies hockey team, horses, faculty, basketball team, classrooms, residence construction, farms and barns, convocation, campus buildings, NSAC principals. Photographs have been removed from the sheets and placed in acid free plastic sleeves. Several prints were disposed of as they were duplicates or copies of older NSAC postcards. -- Sony U-matic videocassette (3/4), “Pesticide safety” by Ian Blenkhorn, Marion MacRae, Cathy Deveau, Mark Tracey. – cannot view the video; place in AV boxes, recommended for disposal unless it is an NSAC produced film.

MacRae Library "An apple a day" exhibit

File contains a collection of photographs used in the "An apple a day" exhibit held at the MacRae Library in 1998. Dr. Alex Georgallas was the acting archivist and curated the exhibit of prints of the Fred Sears glass slides. Most of the photographs center around apples and orchard practices and buildings of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. Notes on some of the sleeves of the negatives suggest that they date from the period 1906/7. It seems likely that they are connected with courses taught by Fred C. Sears at the NSAC during this period.
